Numrich No32 copy scopes back in stock

I had a quick look at the Lawrence ones and they look typically ex Indian and certainly from within the serial number range of the huge batch I rebuilt. BUT, they're original and will always be worth more tomorrow.........

The thing about a MK1 is that with a new set of index plates and judicious barring and engraving it can be a Mk2. And if it can be a Mk2, then it can also be a Mk2/1. It get even better because if it can be an L2A1, then a simple change of index ring/range scale it will fit your 7.62mm L42 too!

You won't be able to do this with a fake/repro due to the non interchangeability of parts. All in all, a bog standard Mk1 is a pretty versatile beast

Someone just asked me in the nicest posible way whether such work (see thread above) isn't the sort of fakery that we were discussing in the threads above that?

I don't think so because the Mk1 is genuine in any case and all of the upgrading/barring out/remarking is the sort of thing that went on every day at our major workshops. And if not at the big workshops, Mk1's were certainly upgraded at the factories as the milled out and over engraved marks prove.

It ain't fakery when the work is performed by a REAL REME Armourer/Instrument technician. Especially when the scopes are all from a five gallon bucket of scrap metal as imported back to the UK from India. Just my 2 cents worth.

These upgrades/modifications performed by the factory or military while still in production/service is one thing but, regardless to who does them, the same upgrades/mods performed years after the scopes left service or went out of production would be fakery in a sense because they are'nt officially sanctioned.

VH, Like I said, just my 2 cents worth. I respect your opinion but I'd much rather have a rebuilt original whether officially sanctioned or not. These new jobs GPC is selling don't impress me in the slightest and yes, a buyer who got burnt on one of the auction sites sent me one to examine last year so I've seen and handled one. You ought to visit here some day and I'll show you a few real ones. You aren't that far away. Bring your No.4T and we'll ring it out a bit on my range.

Hey Brian, that sounds like a plan. FWIW, I was referring to present day modifications being borderline fakery, not a straight forward rebuild. Bit of a grey area here i reckon.

The one I bought had nice glass but lacked in repeatability. I traded it for a nice Inland carbine.

From the assembly numbers scratched into some components of the ones I've done autopsy's on, I would say Czech Republic or Poland. There is NO way you will get any repeatability with the scopes until you rework them. Just press on the range turret and watch the post move........ Also, there is not a single part that will interchange between the regular 32 scope (erector cell cover excluded). The lenses however are first rate and I'll have a set on the tester in a week or so for an Optical man's opinion of the lenses. However, from what I was able to do on my optical bench they looked good.

Just a quick one Warren.......... lenses......... Are they plasticised glass? Are they two part flint/crown glass? Will you scratch the edge of one to see if it's glass or optical plastic? The refractive index is different of course but will be pretty close (?) if it's two part plastic as in two-part glass. I looked into having plasticised lenses made from one piece but the best I could get would only work if I used 1 plasticised with one standard glass flint/crown standard lens.
