Thanks Bob and I will have to look into the book. I am scared to buy a Snail Drum as they have gone way up in price and was surprised to see the counterfeits. Sorry to hear your nephew passed to soon.

Don't have before after but have original & repro. Repro is on right. I used neats on original.
Cool, thanks, that is like the one I have. Can't wait to get it cleaned up. I might use it to make my Garand my conceal carry weapon, you know, since I have a holster for it and all now.
Get the book and read my intro -- he was a Special Forces super soldier. His widow will appreciate the royalties.
Pecards is the best I've found. The antique leather dressing is superb for restoring life to old leather. You can sit the tub out in the sun or cheat with a heat gun to liquify it and then just paint it on. It's a lanolin based preservative which is the only way to go. The animal fat based preservatives like Mink Oil are good for modern boots and waterproofing but basically break down the fibers of the leather to make it soft which is a no-no on antique leather. Have fun!
Thanks for the advice.
Pecards would have made it liquid if that was the best way to apply. By leaving it in a thick paste you get the correct amount and it works slowly into the leather without darkening the leather to any degree.
They make a leather lotion if you prefer a liquid, but I found that it did not work nearly as well as the paste.
Not to pick on Pecards but can someone take a holster like I did and show me the same results? I used Pecards for over a year on some pretty rough stuff. Within a few months the deterioration had started again. With BlackRock It stops it unless it is way to far gone. Look at that 1873 holster and all the rough areas. i did nothing special but rub it in and took it off an hour later. Still looks the same today.
I would like to see some for Pecards if possible but I am not buying it again. Maybe they changed their formula since I had it almost 10 years ago. Rick B
RickB, is this stuff you would recommend?

I'd like to give it a whirl.
