It could have originally been an M1A1, and many would see the original receiver/barrel to be a good starting point for making it one. As I said, it would be expensive, but that 'someone' may have a high-wood paratrooper stock waiting for such a project. Consequently, they might pay more for it than others, figuring on selling the stock and other parts to help offset the cost of the restoration. Even the cut-down band is used by re-enactors.

They're out there. Not me though. I'm over carbine infatuation. I'll keep my Inland rebuild but no more.
