I agree. I like how it looks, and I feel that if it was a VFW rifle for some time, that is part of it's history as well. As long as it's a good shooter, I'm in no hurry to change it.

I hadn't thought of it before but I have a Remington 700 with what appears to be the exact same finish on it. Never was able to figure out what it is. Rifle is in great shape, looks really nice and whatever it is doesn't seem to rust. Might be why I like yours so much.

I've thought about polishing the black off the scope mount but never got around to it. It's in 300 Savage.
sure looks like a 760...
It is Chuck...he mis-spoke... I have the matching carbine by the way. Well, almost. Mine's in .308.
Mine is Blued, I've never seen that finish on a 760. Is it devoid of blue or what? It's too early to be a stainless gun...?
I didn't find a spec of blue on it so they were thorough. I always thought of it as a grey parkerization. Tried researching it but didn't find anything. Figure it has to be an aftermarket finish. It's not like it was rusted either. Metal all looks good. It doesn't look like bead blasted chrome either. It's a mystery.
Strange. I'd love to have it hands on for a minute...
Yes, it's a strange one. The mystery deepens since the CMP left it on the rifle when they had it. It seems maybe they replaced some parts in the bolt, the only parts that don't have the grey/ sliver finish on them. The magazine follower is also blued.
@browningautorifle if you are ever in Texas let me know. I would not mind sharing it.
