Possibly it was that time frame as it was some years ago. Thing is I'm in Canada and sending them back isn't really an option, and the dealers here are less than helpful. Avoiding them and buying OEM solves the problem. The cost of sending them back would balance this out. If I was in the USA it would be different...Quote:

In my mind, an OEM magazine that isn't over the moon expensive is a much better way to go, also there's very little difference in price between the copies and the OEM...at least in this country. The importers take the biggest bite followed by wholesalers. The retailers only do about 10% profit on gun stuff here. This directly contradicts another thread currently about prices of some long guns...you guys (US) can get mags cheap like popcorn.
The problem is that in California, the >10 round magazines are verbotten to buy and ship in to the state. I have watched countless CMP sales go by and not been able to get the USGI original magazines. Owning them pre ban seems to work out but I have never had an inspection at the range to say yes or no. Luckily my Inland is not too finicky on what it gets fed by. Just about any brand mag seems to work. The Underwood that my friend owns, is a picky SOB, it is USGI or nothing. Hard to say why, but it is what it is.

I agree Jim. Original USGI carbine mags are fairly plentiful and inexpensive around here. Many are still in the wrapper. Lots of times when I went to a show that was a 'bust' I'd still buy a couple of carbine mags so I felt like I still got a toy.Quote:

I am also fortunate to have S&W, Browning, and Glock 9mm high caps, and stacks of AK, AK , HK, and other assorted high caps from when I did gunshows and sold in Shotgun News in the pre-internet days. USGI M1 Carbines (and Ruger Mini-14s, etc) are featureless, so I can use my mags in them.
I also run my AR, AK, and HK clone "California Featureless" (no flash hider, no collapsible stocks, and no pistol grips) so I can legally use my high-caps. I use muzzle brakes, fixed stocks and either kydex grip wraps or "Hammerhead" non-pistol grips.
Speaking of USGI magazine springs: Anyone know where you can get NOS USGI 15 round springs? Wolff springs tend to be XTRA Power, and I am not sold on then for the carbine. I like their pistol magazine springs, though.

Coming from that state I can say many acquired mags after the Jan 1, 2000 date. Not legal, but the thinking was how could it be proved when you received the mags. What needed to be shown was legal ownership of the carbine before that date. Thankfully not an issue in my current location.Quote:
