What was the official British terminology used in official British documents/publications for what I've always known as "stripper clips", please?
The term normally used in the British and Canadian system was "charger(s)"
I never knew what the almost fanatical fraternity of "clips, chargers, links and belts" was like until I hung around with the late Herb Woodend.
Herbie was the past Custodian of the RSAF Pattern Room at Enfield Lock and Nottingham.
The the look of pure and absolute ecstasy on Herbie's face on finding that "one of link" that no one else had was priceless. I was amazed at the number of people who collect just clips, links, chargers, belts and loading machines as in many countries around the world, that is all they are allowed. In many places, firearms are verboten or the licensing was very restrictive and in some places even bayonets were not allowed.
There are some massive collections that I have seen and the prices of some individual links would exceed that of a decent Lee Enfield. They are a different breed but "you gotta love them all".
I used to mail Herbie chargers (stripper clips) and links and put "stripper accoutrements" on the package. Herb would tell me the postman used to give him funny looks when delivering the packages. : -)##

Obviously the Prime minister had not talked to too many Aussies that would have totally confused him ! Not a bad car Mike had a spin in 265 Hemi Charger whilst working in garages went very well had to road test it as I had tuned it up, also had a go of the 360CI Valiant that was no slouch for an auto. Charger was also for a horse, we have always called them stripper clips..
Your confusing Berthier M1890 and M1916 clips with the RSC 1917 clips. The RSC 1917 clips were developed concurrently with the M1916 clips however they are not the same (the RSC 1918 used the same 5rd clip as the M16 Berthier). Since only one rifle in history used the RSC 1917 clips and they weren't in service for very long (due to the fact they used a non-standard clip) they are exceptionally rare.Quote:
