L96? sold for £12000 + 25% commission and VAT, the seller will have to pay 8% +VAT so Holts did rather well. If it is the one that Bolt open Classics had for sale then they will be really pi55ed as I know that several people had offered a lot more than they are going to get.
The P14 "sniper" clone went for £2000 + commission &VAT but someone is in for one hell of a shock as it really was rubbish.
I don't understand how people get so carried away at auctions there was a Mosin Nagant PU scoped sniper in the auction valued at £500 - £700, it looked ok from the outside but the barrel was completely shot out and someone still paid £1000 for it + commission & VAT, why don't I manage to find these people!!!!!! :madsmile:

I'm pretty sure that was the BoC one but I thought they had it on a commission sale for the Police force whose gun club it was used by. So the tax payer loses again.....

The Tax payer won't lose, because the Club will be a private club. The money will go back to the club. The Rifle, these days, would be chopped up, so this is a good result. Pricewise, I'd say that is about the right price, with the commission on top. The last one of those sold for £15k, without the transit case and spare mags. BOC were greedy (or the price they were asked for was off the scale.) They also never answered emails and were vague about pricing when asked, so what goes around comes around. Whether you agree with pricing or not, they are rare, and the market determines the value. Someone got themselves a nice kit there.

Problem with auctions is there is not much come back if you do end up with a melon, an example is Sniper rifles, as we all know they attract a lot of attention and a big premium, folk get highly exited at the words Sniper Rifle, but its the clever ones who look for a description such as "original Sniper Rifle" etc, you can argue till your blue in face on some things, if
the item description reads for example...... a Winchester P14 Sniper rifle, nice condition complete with scope......... then thats what it is, someone buying this example only to find its a compete lash up, then not much of a leg to stand on, if the description read "an original" then you have some comeback. I didn't see the P14 so can't comment but if Buccaneer says it was rubbish then that would do for me.

There was a P14 sniper doing the rounds a few years ago, I enquired as one does but considering it was supposed to be all original and come from an Armourer, I had my doubts when I seen the Phillips head screws holding the cheek piece on...........

Problem with auctions is the need to win...... like the compulsive gambler, how many of us watch an item on ebay and then go in at the last minute sometimes biding a bit more than we would normally?? or test the water with a decent price then at the end you can see it slipping from your fingers then raise your max bid ? although ebay you don't have the commission which is an eye opener to some in a live auction who get lost in the bidding war.

Always knock up a rough guide to what your max is and then put a rough figure of the commission next to it. I've an eye on a Motorbike in an up coming auction but the lower price guide with commission etc is a lot more than you would expect to pay compared to the same bike in a normal classified add..................

Old thread and apologies for its ressurection, but fired one yesterday, and as stated many times, it went through the same hole at 600 metres and it became a tad boring, but what a lovely engineered weapon.................in the end anyway, but the Army and the Police move on, with pace!;)
I always wonder who else is out there who will be making the next generation BRITISH rifle??

It will still do the business as their not required for a volume of fire but taking out high value assets doesn't have to be current issue to do that, lucky you I would love to fire one I missed out when the SASR boys came down from Swanbourne barracks with some of their toys at a shoot we held and the civies for a price could get behind them at 900Mtrs think they had a 338LM and 308 sniper rifles there plus some full auto stuff.
Times have changed and they are not allowed to let a civies have a go of their toys now after all the Army owns our range bugger........:bitch:

Everything is so well engineered these days, compared to when it first came out in service.
Still think the Parker Hale M85 would hold its own against it.
