No5 rifle rubber butt pads were notorious for squashing out and distorting due to the heat, oil and general conditions. All of the minor unit armouries that had them used to leave them muzzle down in the racks. That was the norm since the 50's.

Can I just reiterate the point, please don't do anything that alters the originality of these rare rifles.
