I live in a new place now where I only get the smoke, not the flames. It about killed me, but in the last 3 months I've moved every pound of ammo, bullets, powder, primers, weapons I own. Twice. But just as I start to get to feeling sorry for myself, I see what so many of my neighbors have lost and I feel a pang of well earned guilt. And our firefighters...I don't even know what to say. The heroics are now routine. But I can tell you the next time a bond measure comes up to raise money for our firefighters, I will be in the front row of that meeting and I 'effing dare anyone to voice objection. There isn't a mechanism that would allow for recognizing what they're trying to do for us. Thanks usabaker for checking in. Good people on this board.
Glad to hear you are safe and in a new place, Hope you didn't lose anything at your last place. The fires get worse and worse ever two years and it seems just as thing return to "normal" which I don't know is anymore, fires burn everything down again. I hear you on our first responders. Thank you to all the firefighters and National Guard from other states and countries.
When people ask where we live, I always tell them between hurricane alley and refinery row. Although hurricanes truly s%ck, I'd much prefer the 3 day warning over an out of control fire. I just finished reading "Fires in Paradise" and it was a very eye opening read. Stay safe!

I feel your pain I just got home from 5 days of evacuation. moving the collection is tiring but it`s safe. I was ready to bury it if I couldn`t get it out. A few inches of soil will protect better than any fire safe. Thank God your safe and the collection is secure.
Glad to hear you're out of harm's way.
Wish you all the best!
