Your rifle is as close to a military issue L96A1 as you can get without being accused of stealing it from the MoD

I suppose there may have been a transitional period when the rifles weren't marked thus, and maybe Steve Houghton's book will shed light on this.
There are different styles of markings too, some are engraved within an elongated recess, others are just engraved direct onto the receiver.
So, the answer is
Some PMs have it, others don't and it probably depends on their age.

I think the vast majority of ex police L96's - sorry PM's - in private hands have had this done to put them into British Army trim.
Very interesting. I bought my rifle as a Police issued rifle. I didn't knew the Police has had different barrels or at least differently contoured barrels/with flash hiders. Did the Police rifles also had different scopes, or the Schmidt & Bender scopes as I have on my rifle?
