Had a college roommate whose nickname was Slim - he looked like this guy - 10 steps out of the shower and he would start sweating - his classmates would throw bars of soap at him
That 37mm AT gun was quite a handy little weapon all thanks to the good sense of providing it with a H.E. shell, unlike the 40mm 2 Pdr. which had better sights but too high a profile and not even a canister round, let alone H.E.
The shop stewards of the Royal Artillery weren't going to have those AT guns getting out of their place by firing H.E. shells, most improper! :D Except of course it was no laughing matter at the time.
Strikingly small trunnion. The gun captain's hand must be on those binoculars somewhere...
We all have em......................here's our latest recruit in the UK for the RAF :lol: TOP BUN
I must admit, that when we came to Reggio Calabria for our duty against ‘ndrangheta (the Calabrian Mafia - mission Riace), when we arrived at our assigned quarters, we gave the change to an infantry unit from the deepest South.
We were sharp and trimmed like hell, having ended our summer camp in the high mountains just two weeks earlier, so, when we saw these guys, we were pretty “impressed”.
Starting with a Sergeant Major (three stripes) who had linked two combat belts to fit his monumental belly…
He was way worse than the guys in these pictures.
He looks as out of place as I'd feel in that line up, for sure!
