Hello!
Merry Christmas and Happy New year.
New to this thread but I have been lurking about Parallax bills site for a year or two. Decided I should broaden my forum horizons. In general I collect British Commonwealth rifles, bayonets, parts, pieces etc... But if it goes Bang, Boom or even Pop, I like it. C&R 03 FFL, ATF Display Fireworks Liscense, and State Display liscense holder.
Current list of C&R firearms
'42 Savage #4MkI* all but bolt matching. From the attached stacking swivel was proabably a Turkish gun at one point in its life. 2-groove Shiny bore, added a MkI backsight.
'42 Maltby #4Mk1/2All matching except butt stock. FTR'd in '55 to MkII config. Has Long Branch S butt. I hope to rectify that in the next couple of days. (I am 6'1" so the gun hits me in the nose when I shoot it.) 5 Groove excellent bore.
'44 Maltby #4MkI* (yes it is marked I*, but it is not. has normal takedown plunger not cutout.) FTR mismatched numbers. Project for a Faux #4MI T. Added an ATI base, Numrich cheek piece, Triple K 1907 sling, and Weaver Steel tube K2.5 scope in weaver low rings. Looks good but CANNOT be passed off as a real T. Still waiting to get her out see what she can do at the range. May try to do NRA/DCM Vintage Sniper Comp. (will have worst score of anyone;))
'16 P'14 Eddystone. Weedon Repair standard riffle with excellent shiny bore. Thought about getting volley sight parts and replacing them and adding a stock disc, for looks. Stock had been sanded by bubba so will never be passed off as a pre Weedon rifle.
'41 Lithgow #1MkIII* FTR'd '55. Excellent shiny bore, excellent overall condition, All matching. looks like it was never touched after the FTR.
'40 RFI #1MkIII* converted in '41 to .410. Unfortunatley was reamed out to take 3" when imported. Chamber reamer must have been bent, rusty chipped, and attached to hit and miss steam engine when they cut the chamber. Headspace is excessive and mushrooms commercial case heads. Working on trying .444 Marlin brass as replacement shotshells. still working on load data. If that does not work, may try to open up the chamber to .45-70 and try those as brass. Dont know.
'45 #5 All but bolt matching. Current bolt is less than 50 away from original. Very loose stocks. will hacve to work on tightening those up before I shoot it.
'11 M96 Swede. Excellent bore. Arsenal matching. Original type sling.
I have correct bayonets and scabbards for every one of the above. Even have an extra 1907 Bayonet that needs a #1MkIII from WWI. Always on the lookout for a good #1MkIII of British manufacture. ( to go along with the bayonet of course.)
I dream about a #1MkIII, and #1MkI or MkI***, and Long Lee.
I fantasize over a real T in a transit chest... Ahh...
I also try to un-bubba as many rifles as I can. Sometimes I re-work hopeless bubba's into experimental models. I am working on getting a #4 that had the barrel cut off 1/2" in front of front sight. a little work with the forened, a cheek piece, a scope base, and scope and it should look like a .303 version of an L42A1. Wont fool anyone but should look cool. Now if I can get the guy to drop the price...
Anyway I blathered on long enough.
Just saying Hi and avoiding real work in the dead zone between Christmas and New Years.
