Here is a shot of US Marines. I noticed the Lithuanians had the slings on the stacking swivel.

I don't know about WW1 but my Dad in the first couple of months of 1942 (as a civilian carpenter) helped other civilian workers build some of the Army barracks at Fort Meade, Maryland before he joined the US Marines as a Combat Engineer.Quote:

My own opinion is that in time of war the priority for recruits would be training and getting them in-theater ASAP rather than spending time building barracks.
