The front sight has been off which is a great indicator that the barrel band has been replaced. The sling swivel may be correct but not the band itself.

That's George.... AKA M1carbine parts (DOT) com on Gun Broker and Ebay. Also uses the name ABCLEIGH, XYZLeigh and possibly No guts no glory.
Major reason this hobby is flooded with REPRO parts.
Stay away from anything coming from Modesto, CA.
Be patient.......... best advice I can give.
Charlie
So stay away from anything offered by "DIPP", Riverbank Armory, Sam-T-Bob?
Anybody know "Targettoys" or "Gunsrc"? thanks
"No guts no glory" is Georgie also.
I think they may all be working together or at least are all selling not so rightous items and advertising them as such.
This goes for any of the sellers listed above.
As someone above stated, you should study up on this before parting with large sums of money. Ask questions, show us pics. Don't be afraid to ask. I ask when in doubt, and I have been collecting on my own for about 10 years. Only in the last 3 or so did I find this forum and the carbine club to help. Before that, I only bought from people who had guns that barely knew what they were. In saying that, someone selling grandad's old war junk would be a whole lot less likely to add on a few "rare" parts (or better said made recently to look old and rare) to make a profit. I looked everywhere to find guns that looked like they had been in an attic for 60 years.
Best of luck on your search,
Dave
usgicollector: You think like I do. It seems the majority of people selling on gunbroker.com are dealers. Perhaps I should stay away from that sight. Are there any sellers that post to the classifieds on here?
Yes, sometimes.
Join the carbine club and post a WTB add on the back page. It will be the best $23 you ever spend on carbines.
You can buy the entire research of the club for $280 and learn more than you can imagine. Then the next thing is just to handle as many as you can.

Dave I couldn't agree more about the carbine club. Also, Greystone there are a few sellers on this site that will sell on both eBay and Gunbroker. This is not to say they are like the counterfeit artists on the left coast. Buy yourself a few books like Reisch's and Ruth's books. Reisch has some incorrect information but it it great as a quick book. Join the Carbine Club and hang out here and pay close attention to some posters like Brian Q, Bruce McAskill, Rustship, Painter777, Wulf, Bill Ricca, PBI, USGIcollector, cafdfw, just to name a few. They are all great guys and very much in the know. Good luck.
Don't trust the fedback system. Many of these buyers know what their buying. The others don't know the difference.
Even if you see a real item listed by these dealers.... Odds are you'll be shipped something different.
GunBroker.com - Auctions by abcleigh
GunBroker.com - Auctions by m1carbineparts.com
abcleigh items - Get great deals on Collectibles items on eBay.com!
All of the above on the DO NOT TRUST LIST.

Thanks for this information. Dishonesty has infiltrated everything it seems. I hope to find a good Carbine one of these days! Thanks
