Although it would be hard to tell 100%, I doubt that the bayonet with the "USN MKI" scabbard was U.S. Navy issue. A large number of mostly plastic training bayonets was manufactured with these scabbards. The bayonets didn't last too long and the scabbards (which were a lot more sturdy) were used as replacements.
I thought it was since it has "USN" on one grip and an anchor on the other grip. :dunno:
Oops! I did miss that, but I have some doubts that is a true indicator. It would be too easy for a former owner (or seller) to stamp those initials into the wood. The scabbard is definitely a replacement. If you go on eBay and other sources you'll see lots of Mark I scabbards.

Yes, probably all those scabbards have been replaces with later models since the original scabbards went lost.
The original early scabbards for M1905 bayonets were they of leather or canvas, weren't they ?
As for the stamp in the grips that could really be a fake, I am searching to find any info about similar grips.

I think those are for a 1907 bayonet. Lots of them around. The fit's terrible, not even close. I'd be more inclined to make a set fron scratch then use those like that. I agree that someone was stamp happy that day.
