Hi peter, last night on bbc 1 there was a program about the ira in ireland & some of the film showed a para with a l1a1 with a no32 scope attached????.
Yes noticed the scoped L1A1 as well.
It's about 19.51 in on BBC iplayer -

ATB Kevin
looks like an Aim point single point scope.
To my knowledge we never had a 32 scope modified to fit the top cover of the SLR at any time in PARA Reg in the 70's for what its worth;)
I certainly never ever saw one. The trajectory of the bullet woulldn't match the trajectory of the telescope either. Not the L1A1 and definately not the No32......... But after last nights programme, you can see why the wary and wise NEVER name names and prefer photos with pixellated faces. Cameras on ops = bad news
I don't think Aimpoint and Singlepoint were in cahoots. Singlepoint was British made, Aimpoint Swedish. I still have one of Aimpoint's old externally adjustable MkI scopes!
Armson OEG, which may still be in business, did something almost identical to the Singlepoint. I've got a Jane's Infantry Weapons from that time period with a large advertisement for one or both.
Peter,
Agreed, and I pay a licence fee for that programme to be made and for them to fly to Australia on my money to hound blokes down, what a country we have become:mad:
Apologies.................. didn't mean to go off the theme of the thread, but I think the telescope in the first image and in the NI one is the telescopic sight a 3.6X A.B.L model 2112F by O.I.P personally fitted item by the person in the photo who is no longer with us or I would ask him to confirm, remember it being zero'd at Ballykinler;)

Meant to say also his eye relief through the sight that far forward would have been a real struggle too!
Regarding pic in post #31 by Skiprat, anyone notice the forward pistol grip also ?
