The front barrel band is supposed to be welded and pinned. You can see the pin mark on the barrel at least. I don't know what to make of the stock. Some arsenals started using earlier rejected stocks but Nagoya isn't mentioned as one of them. This type front band started with series 7. In fact everything with a late series 7 seems to match your rifle. The series 8 started with the single hole rear sling swivel which yours does not have. the separate fore stock also started with series 8.
I'm betting you have a late series 7. The front sights without guards is also series 7. Mine has them as a series 8 because some in the middle of the run had them.
It is good that you have the pinned front band as it will hold the fore stock in place with the "duffle" cut.

You might check the chamber to see if it got reamed out to "7,7-'06". Just a thought after observing the magazine housing weld.

The series mark is 8th. The front band should be for a short handguard, like in a T38. Another thing is that your safety cap doesn't look correct, it looks like a T38 safety. Rifle should look like in the photo below. But you can make it look like a regular T99 if you wish.

I am 99% sure it's a 8th series!!..LoL..
If I stare at weird little symbols one more minute I'm going to have to talk to a therapist!!!

I've never had much luck figuring out the series mark but it does look more like an 8th than a 7th. The features are all 7th with the exception of the safety knob which was pointed out. 8th series starts the single screw sling swivel so you most likely have a very early 8th series that did not yet make the switch. Correct safety knob should be rough welded although it would be possible to have a grooved type. That one definitely looks like a type 38 knob.

Will the safety knob have a sn on it? The bolt body does match the receiver.
Good news on the upper handguard. If I can keep as is, and only extend out the stock portion, I can whip that out this weekend.
And I agree Warp.... Those squiggly lines all look the same to me when applied to the rifle.
And I also agree on checking the caliber. Bubba may have had his hands deeper in it than I thought. I will check the rails closer for damage also.

It should have the last three of the serial on it. I just checked mine and it is a "middle" series 8.

The rifle is still staked, Every part except the bolt has been together since day one.

Looks like a series 20 with all the bells and whistles. Is the mum ground?
