That's not a crack, unless I can't see what you mean. There's a sliver of something standing vertical but if he cleaned all that off for us it would provide a different picture.

I see the rough, dirty appearance and agree it needs a good look. I can't for the life of me make out any heat discoloration though... I wish he's clean and oil and come back with new pics. The bolt head, well...if we could get our noses over top it might be different. Completely agree about better pics and if he understood what you wanted it would be better, location wise.

The whole thing could be as you say, I just think there's less here than meets the eye... If he sends it off to BDL, we'll get definitive...?

#21 I mentioned there was a piece of lint that is as you say Jim vertical and makes it appear the feed ramp has a crack in it on further blowing up of the pic it is lint perhaps IC used a flash and this caused a shadow...? But I cannot make out any crack in the feed ramp by using the enlarge box on the original pics posted.

I just wish one of us, almost any one of us...could have a hands on look so as to be able to see. I'd give it a good clean and oil and try some good reliable drill ammo to see...even if I made it from new ball.

It does look like a little crack to me also. Keen eye muffer!

Piece of lint at @6:30 o'clock shadow caused by flash unless all the other striations on ramp are cracks.

I'm so convinced I said it three times😂

Glad to hear it will get a proper inspection. Not worth the risk having something break !

I have come across a few WW2 dated Lithgows that had hard extraction but found if you removed the up & too the left force you apply to the bolt when opening, (ie pull straight back with downwards pressure with your hand over instead of under the bolt handle) they would extract fine
