New member introductions thread ......

Hi to everyone, glad I found this forum. I'm interested in anything military, have a 1903 Springfield, 1920 build date best I can tell, an M1 Carbine and a M1A. I have two Enfield MKIII's, one I scoped with an
old Redfield, have yet to get out and try it.
Obviously, there is a Garand size hole in my little collection. Just joined the Garand organization so I can buy from CMP, and learn a lot more about Garands, but would rather find one from a group like this, maybe with a little history.
We'll see.
I also build guitars and used to build engines for 911 Porsches but the back won't let me
spend much time crawling around cars so I'm concentrating on my limited gunsmithing
abilities and building a guitar or uke every now and then. I would really like to trade an
old Martin guitiar for a Garand but I suppose that's a stretch, finding someone willing to
part with such a rifle.
I finish stocks mostly, and use a variety of finishes. I like old shellac and have recently found
a new type of shellac that holds up to moisture where the old "french polish" technique was more appropriate for instruments than stocks and grips. I often shoot Nitrocellulose lacquer, it will hold up and is easy to repair and can be polished out to a high gloss if
desired. Oiled finishes as well.

New to forum ...currently restoring my father's Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk. 1/2 that was purchased in the 60's from a barrel at Sears. Dad cut down the forestock, replaced the butt stock, threw away the rest of the wood, tapped the receiver for s scope, and when the scope didn't fit right, cut one of the clip ears off. I'm currently replacing everything and repairing everything but the ear. Her name....we call her Ugly Bess.

I've lurked here for years, but would like to introduce myself and post questions and comments. If you watch the History Channel, H2 (History International), the Military Channel, or Shooting USA on the Outdoor Channel, chances are you've seen my mug as a talking head or shooting a classic firearm. I am particularly keen on military weapons, but also enjoy "Western" firearms. I cast my own ball and reload a bit. I'd like to see the Lewis Gun get it's own area.

Greetings to all of you out there in milsurp land! Just joined this forum in hopes of finding information and possibly some parts for a couple older pieces I have aquired of late. Currently I am trying to find a replacement stock, hand guards, etc. for a 1898 Krag. A previous owner cut the stock off just in front of the middle band. I would like to find used parts so they would sort of match the patina. Anyway, good to know there are like minded folks out there to communicate with.

Im new to your forum as I got caught up in collecting old model Rugers until I got bored and decided I should have more old military stuff. Im just an old viet nam vet collecting my social security and buying a gun or two when I can afford it just to bring back my younger days, and BS with a few old vets. Roy
