New to the Forum and to a Springfield 1903A3. All Remington parts in VG to Excellent condition except for the dreaded National Ordnance receiver. I know it's not a "real" A3 - yet - but it's a start. The search for a Remington receiver has already begun and will continue until I have one. In the meantime, it's a very accurate shooter.
I've already read a lot of threads and have finally found the place I need to be.
I'm new to the forum, and looking forward to learning more about the M1 carbine. I have an early Inland, SN 96XXX, which was probably built in December 1942. When it went through depot overhaul it got an Inland barrel marked 5-44, which I want to replace with one marked 12-42 or thereabouts to be consistent with the receiver's SN.
Hi just joined my first forum, not sure how this all works. I am on a mission! Long story... fairly short. My father served in the Army Air Corp in WWII. He met and married my mom in England in 1944. My brother was born there. Dad bought a sporter Enfiield in 1960s for my brother to deer hunt with. My brother absolutely loved this gun, 2 markings he remembers vividly, "England" 1945, same year he was born there. This rifle was extremely accurate and had the sniper scope mount, full barrel, the wood was modern. Sadly, this rifle along with other guns were stolen. The mission, to find a rifle that would approximate the rifle he had. Mom and Dad have passed away and I am on a mission to purchase a replacement rifle for my brother to hunt with. I said "fairly short", just think if I went long:yikes:
Not new to shooting or forums - I still remember when one had to know code to get on the early bbs systems! I have been a shooter all my life. I also reload for all my firearms. I've been lurking on this forum for some time now and finally thought I'd sign up as there has been some pretty good information found here.
I'm also a machinist. I have a small shop that I use for my personal items and find working with metal is a fun thing to do. As well as saving me money by building it as opposed to buying it.
I have shot competitively in handgun and rifle but found it too expensive as well as taking time from things I wanted to do that had no schedule. I own a few rifles that I consider MilSurps, a 1944 LE (T), a 1966 Ishapore, an 1898 Carl Gustav 6.5X55 Carbine, and my Dad's 30 Carbine is now owned by my son. My Dad's carbine was the one he carried as a tail gunner in B-17s during WW-II. None of them are safe queens and I enjoy shooting them.
I served my country during the Vietnam War as a radio operator with 5th Comm Bn. We were the pool of radiomen who went wherever we were needed. So I got to spend time with the infantry for most of my 13 months there.
If there are other burning questions feel free to ask as I am pretty open about who I am. I do have several interests with shooting being number 3 on my list right at this particular point in time. I'm building a 1953 Ford Hot Rod and attempting to restore a 1938 Harley chopper my Brother built back in the early 70s. Probably more of a project than I wanted but it keeps me out of mischief!
Be well and God Bless you
Steve

Hello to all of you
Hey all,
A very newly-minted convert to the milsurp rifle (my first rifle purchase two weeks ago, Longbranch No.4) I'm coming here with pretty much nil experience :p but a great desire to learn from you knowledgable guys.
Belong to a service rifle club, have spent that last almost 3 years shooting the club's modern scoped hunting rifles (ie "cheating" according to the club member who sold me the enfield lol) so I know this is gonna be a hell of a steep, but rewarding learning curve.
My father served during WW2 in Burma with a Scottish Regt; he obviously would have used a No.4 so part of its attraction for me is due to that fact.
Look forward to finding out more about my new obsession. I'm presuming the uncontrollable urge to polish with a silicon cloth dies off eventually? :D
Hello

Bri, simply go to their site, you'll have to Google it. Personally for the cost I would purchase original German. They seem to be about the same price. Unless your working on an M48 or an M44, Well I would go German on an M44 as well but that's simply my humble opinion. Ebay also has them at times, but once again there's very little savings. It's hard to beat an old El Paso K4 and a set of super high Leopold's and then you can take the money you save and buy another milsurp. ;)
Looking for some help and counsel on attaching the front sight to a 1903A3 Smith Corona. It was a sporter which we are putting back into orignal configuration. Have the blade, band, key and both pins. Seems that the blade pin is very difficult to drive thru the upper part of the band, thru the blade and out the other side. Could use some hints on conducting this seemingly simple task.
Also could use some counsel on easy methods of attaching band and key onto the barrel.
thanks
Pete

Hi: I have inherited several rifles from my dad. Will post some pictures some day.
1943 or 1948 Enfield MK4#1 Marking is damaged on 3 , so could be a 8.
1965 Romanium WASR10 AK47
and a few others. I have been studying the Enfield it is a BSA version in 303 Brit. It was sportorized and have got everything but the magazine for it. A local gun shop sent it to canada to get some parts acutized.
I have looked in this site for several years, but finally joined today.
Thanks

Hey guys... I love this site! I am interestred in the swiss rifles! And surplus rifles.
Hi,
I'm new to collecting Milsurps. My first was a sportered LE SMLE that I don't have anymore. I got more interested in military surplus rifles after being given a Cooey Carcano and trying to figure out what the hell it was. That started me reading online, joining CGN, and soon I owned a mint ROF No.5.
Currently I'm looking for a LB No.4 to restore as a bit of a long term project. Also on the wish list is a mint Swede Mauser 6.5X55.
I look forward to reading and learning here.
Adrian
Hey everyone how's it going my name's Jeremy, I just joined the forum and I'm looking forward to meeting fellow members and learning as much as I can from others. Hi Colecting milsurps for 50 years. Was a Air Force Weapons Tech. for 6 years and just reyired from the Army Corp of Engineers as a mechanic. I had 40 years with the govertment. I think this sight is great.
Hey:
To whom this may concern. Hello to everybody and fellow collectors an shooters. I have been collecting military firearms for many years now. Come to think of it 30 years or so. I am happy to say. I take pride in being able to reload for every callibre of rifle that I have been able to collect. It does take alot of research, trial and effort. But thats half the fun. My interests are with the very well known and illustrous LEE-ENFIELD. I also have very nice Finnish Mosins in my collection. Always keenly interested in other models of the 2 world wars.
Thanks Gunner
Good Evening Gentlemen (& Ladies?),
I am a brand new member to the forum. Thank You for letting me join. I am looking forward to some very interesting informational reading.
 Just wanted to say hello. I have been collecting ( on a small scale ) military style rifles for a couple of years now..........AK-47......SKS-45......an UZI......but it’s time to get serious. To that end I have just acquired an Arisaka type 38 which I believe to be a series 23. (there is what looks like a triangle inside of a circle just forward of the barrel proof mark "B". Someone wiser than I might be able to set me straight if I guessed wrong). Over the next few years I would like to collect a representative rifle, from each of the combatants of WW2 when they entered the war. I bought my oldest daughter a 1938 Mosin Nagant 91/30 for Christmas and her boyfriend has a 1942 8mm Mauser and a .303 Enfield so I have a good idea of what I want to add next. After that maybe a Carcano or the holy of holies... an M1 ( a guy can dream can't he ).
The Arisaka is all cleaned and oiled and after my friendly neighborhood gunsmith has a look at it I hope to be able to shoot it for the first time this weekend. A range report will follow.
This forum has been a great source of information for me over the last few weeks and I look forward to a lifetime association with its members.
I'm a new member just landed! Hello to all members from Milsurps!

Hello, group .... I'm John from NC, just got my C&R permit. This forum was a big help in doing that, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Already have a boundbook with numbered pages, have placed an order for the first purchase. I am a fanatic for WWII history and look forward to collecting of the weapons that forged that history. Anyway, thanks to all for sharing your knowledge .... John.
Hello Forum Members,
I'm new to this forum and joined to glean some additional information in my quest for modifying two No.4 Lee-Enfields for target shooting.
I'm nearly done with the first project (see attached photo). It's a No.4 Mk.2 with a "new" Enfield Lock .308 target barrel and Can-West trigger. If you think it looks like an Envoy, that's the goal.
Attachment 31735
The second project is a No.4 Mk.1 with a "new" .303 barrel and Can-West trigger that will look like a stock military issue rifle. The goal here is a 1 MOA firearm that will prove to a friend the Enfields can be very accurate.
Regards,
David
 New member here, have a couple of 303 I want to learn more about.
Hello all!
I would like to say "Thank you" to the admins for letting me join the forum - i look forward to reading the vast amount of information contained here . . . it seems to be a very valuable font of knowledge!!
I am Terry Davis, 42, married with children, and live in the United Kingdom - the Southern part! lol
I have had in my posession for a few years now a 1942 Lee Enfield No4 Mk1*, made at Long Branch Armoury in Canada. Serial number is: 1736L5518.
When i first purchased it, it was a 'sporterised' [God, but i HATE that word! :o( ] rifle in that it had only the lower stock timber which had been cut down to just short of where the rear band would sit. It was somewhat rusty in parts (lucky enough for me the rust was only external on the mid barrel only) - but having it professionally bead blasted sorted that out well enough. Next, I decided to use gradually finer grades of wet & dry to rub it down and then i chose to re-blue it myself. This worked out really really well actually and I am pleased and happy with it.
Next thing i sorted out was to get a whole new set of timbers for it - the two upper guards, and the full length lower stock. I sparingly rubbed them down, colour matched them to my original butt stock timber, and refinished them with Walnut stock oil - the stock oiling took me a total of 1 year, 1 month, and 7 days to finish. The reason for the time is that i followed a formula taught to me by an old friend in regards to applying oil - 1 coat per day for 1 week, then 1 coat per week for 1 month, and finally 1 coat per month for 1 year. it has worked very well again and i am happy with the results.
There are just a few more things i need to restore the rifle to it's original state, but sadly up to now, I still cannot find any of them on the internet :crying:
Those parts are as follows (in case anyone here can be of any further help in the hunt):
1 x Magazine case (it HAS to be original pattern, NOT ProMag pattern)
1 x magazine follower and spring.
1 x magazine catch.
1 x Waisted foresight protector (the foresight protector lugs are still on my barrel - hence my choice of a waisted protector.
1 x foresight base.
A couple of assorted foresight blades. (I am not overly fussed with the blade size number, as they can be fettled with to suit my needs and range . . . after much working out)
Well guys and gals, thats me. I look forward to joining you in forum conversation at some time or other in the near future!
All the best,
Terry
Hi just joined and wanted to say hello. I'm a long time collecter and shooter. and have many Mil Surps. Thia looks like a great site and look forward to many posting.

Hello all! I have joined because of my love of long guns especially 03s and enfields
Hello to all!
Have enjoyed this resource for awhile but have never posted. I have three of the cd's from this site (Big CD-Rom II, 2004 CD-Rom & Collecting & Shooting the Military..) and really like the contents. I espically have an interest in the Swedish Mausers. I hunted with the 6.5 x 55 for a number of years, the Mauser never let me down. Last year I acquired a Springfield 03 A3in all original condition and admire the extremely slick action. The Swiss K-313 is also another favorite of mine. I enjoy reading and learning about the surplus arms and find this site very helpful.

hi members i used collect all kinds firearms at one time. But then started a collection of kids so getting back at after about 30 yrs
Getting the mandatory intro post out of the way, been a machinist forever and looking at gunsmithing as part of my retirement plan. Would be interested in any blueprints for gunsmithing tools and which services are hard to find.
Hello all, i have a passion for Mauser rifles, both short & long from single shot .22 training rifles to center fire. The '98' action being my favourite.
There is a huge amount of information to be found on forums & from collectors & it is great to read what knowledgeable people have to say. thank you all.
Cheers..Mark.
I'[m Marshall Huffman, retired University Professor. I have been collecting and restoring WWII rifles for many years. My two favorite rifles are the Russian SVT-40 and of course the M1 Garand. About the only thing I haven't restored is a French Mlousqueton Berthier and the German Gewehr 41. My biggest pet peeve is the so called Sporterized WWII guns. I know everyone is entitled to their likes and dislikes but I just hate to see a great Mauser that has been cut down. My web site is WW II GUN RESTORATIONS - WW I Restorations
I just started collecting Bayonets which is a whole different thing. I'm not as knowledgeable as I need to be yet. I'm been doing research but it seems so subjective at this point. I guess the same could be said for guns but at least I understand the nuances of rifles.
I also restore old British Cars. I just finished a 1957 MGA that came in boxes essentially. It took almost a year but it is back on the road. I gotta' quit collecting so many things before my wife gives me that "of one of us has to go" automation.
Hi! My nome is Antonio , I'm italian and be happy a new member: sorry for my english.
Hello, my name is Mark and I am happy to be here.
As of right now I only have 2 surplus rifles. A 1931 91/30 Tula Mosin with matching numbers and a Savage made Enfield No.4 MKI. I just picked it up this past weekend. I will be posting pictures of it in the Enfield section of the forums.
Good evening from the North!! Have a good night folks, glad to be here. Just remember steady nerves make for a good shot.
Hello all. I'm a new member. I'm into mostly WWII firearms.
Hello, new boot here. Just doing the obligatory introduction. I used to mooch off of the surplusrifle.com site, but for some reason it went down? I was redirected here, so that's my story.

Hello from Kodiak Alaska. I'm into milsurps and have been using this site for reference. I currently have a Russian SKS, Mosin Nagant 91/30, a HRA M1 Garand from the CMP, and a sporterized 1903 (that I'd like to un-sporterize as best as I can). I'm hoping to get an unmolested high-number 1903 or '03A3, a Swiss K31, and a Mosin Nagant M44 in the near future to add to my collection.
Hello:
I am a collector of SMLE chargers. I've been collecting them for quite a while. I now have over 60 different chargers and am always on the lookout for ones I don't have. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive list of makers and their marks so I could be looking for a long time.
Cheers,
21IPC

Hi, I'm Jason. I've never posted here before but I enjoy reading the comments and questions so I thought I would register. i'm a former Marine and US Army veteran and I have a passion, like most of you, I assume, for military surplus weapons. It's nice to meet everyone. And I look forward to communicating and hearing your comments.
My name is Rich, I retired 3 years ago and this is my hobby collecting, shooting, reloading and casting. It is allot of fun the wife does not understand it. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. I like your form because I collect C&R rifles.
Hello to everyone! I truly look forward to the sharing of knowledge and experiences associated with collecting and shooting military surplus rifles! I own several Lee Enfields and Mosin Nagant 1891/30's. My best regards to you all! BC1.
G'day. New boy on the block of this very interesting site. Class myself as a student of military small arms regardless of make or calibre. My all time favorites being from the family of Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov. Have had a number of enfields over the years, but unfortunately no longer collect.
Greetings,
While attempting to find out what I purchased this past weekend, I came across this site. The site looks to be very informative so register I did.
My main interest lies in milsurp. rifles and pistols. I thoroughly enjoy finding sporterized rifles and attempting to restore them to as near original configuration as possible.
The rifle in question is a Longbranch 1943 SN 56L3035. Everything about the gun seems to be correct save for the cut down forend and removal of the front sight guards. I am hoping to find parts to restore the rifle and came across this sight in my initial search. Will probalbly have lots of questions so please bear with me if I post excessively.

I live in Eldridge, Missouri, U.S.A. I am retired from Federal Civil Service and from the U.S. Navy. I am a political activist on line working to return the U.S. to a country of the people, for the people and by the people and stop this rush to Socialism under Obama. I have a blog at: iamacitizen.wordpress.com.
I am a new fan of collecting military rifles and pistols from history. My initial interests are the Japanese Arisaka (I have a Type 99 Short Rifle); Chinese, I have an SKS, Russian, I have a Mosin Nagant M91/30, and a Springfield 1873, 45-70, Breach Loading, Calvary Saddle Rifle.
I had a problem with the bolt being stuck half in and half out and I couldn't get it to budge. I found enough helpful information on your Japanese Forum to resolve the problem. That made me quite happy!
Hello everybody,
Just joined your ranks and am looking forward to meeting a lot of you. Personal experience: I was one year old when my folks were living near Newport, OR on the Oregon coast. My mom told me one time that a Japanese submarine was spotted a few miles out in the Pacific while I slept in my crib. Since then, one of my favorite parks on the Coast is Ft. Stevens State Park, where there are still concrete bunkers and gun turrets where artillery was aimed west to defend the good ol' USA against Japanese invasion. I grew up in a rural suburb of Portland called Garden Home. Our home was a little house nestled in about 3 acres of fir trees and undergrowth. Needless to say, after WWII was over, I and other kids my age played "army" in those woods and bought as much war surplus gear as our folks would let us. We couldn't have real rifles, so we made our own (with Dad's help) out of boards and dowels. Those were fun times and things were certainly more black and white than today! Now, I collect surplus guns, knives and bayonets. I'm especially fond of Enfield rifles and have 3 of them in 303 British cal. and an "Ishy" in 7.62X51 cal. My favorite is my Enfield No. 5 Jungle Carbine and I'm curently trying to find information on the Web about how to accurize it. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Hello to every one, I leave in the Province of Quebec, Canada. I like all rifles, I reloads over 20 caliber, I cast bullets, ( relatively new at this last activity ) and love hunting when I can in company of my son and a friend.
Best Regards to all,
roberto

Hello, I have been on Gunboards for a spell. Been shooting military since I bought a Spanish Mauser when I was 14 or so in 1965. Been a terrible addiction ever since. Though not to Spanish Mausers.

I just ordered a stacking swivel and screw for my BSA No1, Mark III SmLE from Springfield Sporters. I too have a bubba'ed No 4, and am thinking about ordering the forend from Sarco.
Hi Ya Folks!
Currently active on CMP. Been actively shooting and reloading for around forty years...
"ChuckinDenver" recommended that I spend some quality time over here because of my strange addiction to things British. That includes MG-TDs as well as Lee-Enfields... But I like most things that go 'bang' Currently in the market for a low budget P-14 or a P-17...
I am retired from the Military as well as from the Corporate Wars...

Hello everyone,
Just an old guy in Texas trying to find some info on a few few items. Not much knowledge on military stuff, but glad to be among like minded folks.
Cheers, Bill:wave:
Hi,
I live just a few km/miles from the old Ross Rifle factory, so naturally my main interest is Canadian and Brithish military rifles, 19-20th century era. Glad to join your ranks!
I am just starting to again, collect old milsurps. I love the carbines and semiautos with the occasional long rifle. Back sucks, so hunting is out, but I can still punch paper real good. Pleasure to be here !
Hi
I'm a new member. Just checking the site. Always liked oddball and surplus guns. right now working smle & swedish carbines.
Hi all
I'm new and MILSURPS has asked me to introduce myself. So what do I say? I have read a lot of stuff that you all have had to say on different topics. All very usefull and interesting. I'm addicted to 303 enfields, all sorts, military, commercial, sportized and anything that even hints of enfield, P14, M17, etc. I have an enfield #4 mk2 that I bought 42 years ago. Did a lot of hunting with it and decided to put it back to its military state. Another new guy here.
I love M1 Carbines and use this forum as a reference (as well as some others) because unlike most of you guys I know next to NOTHING about the surplus military world.
Much like a small child I am wide eyed and wondrous at all the info I pick up [most of it too late after I've already made an expensive mistake !]
Cheers
