Looking at these threads sure brings back memories. It's nice to see 3 rifles here that have been through my shop. They're in England, New Zealand and the USA!
I still have a 1975 dated L42A1. The only one I've ever seen. I had three dated 1974 but they're all gone now.
Ok so on a sweltering Sunday in Blighty... came across this picture which I've never seen before. It's from the 1970s in Oman and is different to that other SAS one which has been shown many times here (the chap with the L42 resting on his knees). Anyway, it was part of a display at the Shirehall in Hereford for Armed Forces Day. If it's been posted many times before then I apologise!

Nice to see that he's holding the fore-end as it should be held. Gripping it, fingers around it and not sat in the hand like a wuss.........

Browsing a Falklands War Picture group today I found these gems, all taken during the Falklands conflict. The narrative for the last one includes comments about members of the SBS in the photo. You will note there is an SLR with a scope, and also a civilian sporting rifle scoped up, rather than an L42. All photos are on Facebook Group Falklands War Pics and is an open group.

This one has FTR markings, don't know if they were applied whilst in No.4 Mk.1(T) config. or L42a1.
ETA: This rifle was one of the first converted as an XL42E1, then later reworked to L42a1 standards.
