Sounds like normal patina caused by aging to me. I don't think cosmolene has anything to do with it. Regards, Rick.

Thanks Rick,
I read that on Wikipedia so I don't know how reliable it is.
Any ideas on the other markings I on the stock?
Regards,
Craig
Took this to the range today for the first time. A bit of load development produced 1inch groups at 100 metres. Can't ask for more than that.
Glad to here she's a shooter!
Mike
Craig, your rifle looks as Minty as any that I've seen. Nice!
Thanks Fred,
I had a look at the bore with a bore scope. It is absolutely mint. So glad it shoots well. I will never sell it, never ever. Never.
Need a lower foresight blade though...any suggestions?
What letter is in it now ?
Chris
If the "A" can be seen when installed , it's 0.537 high. Each letter up ( B , C , etc. ) will be .015 lower in steps , which equals 2MOA change. If the letter is stamped low , so as to be hidden when installed , those run one step higher than the above ( a low A equals a high B ) .
