I decided that this rifle is a keeper and is worth making right. It's an piece of history and an investment. I'm going to send it out to get professionally spec'd (I've done my novice work and it all checks as far as tolerances go but she's going to a pro), bead blasted, parkerized, and a new barrel (unless it really doesn't need one at all). I'm shopping around for a place to have it done.
Chuckindenver can do the work I think, he's a member here...you'll get other suggestions here in a minute. Brian Dick is down the coast from you but I don't know if he does all that or contracts it. He'll be along in a minute too...
I'm less concerned with that than having the push backy thing make an ouch on my arm bone meat when the pew pew goes off and the bang tube tries to moonwalk.Quote:

You could send it off to the CMP Custom shop for a full evaluation and barrel swap.
If you wanted a nice fresh M1 you could have purchased a cmp special for 1030$ shipped right to your house.
Or you can keep this rifle as it is,and spend the money your going to put into yours on another rifle from the cmp.
Give Tim Shufflin (Shuff's Parkerizing) a call or email. He does top-drawer work and his turn around time is super fast.

I live in MA ... neither firearms nor ammo can be shipped here. Also, I've never heard of not needing an FFL dealer to buy a firearm and then have it shipped to your house.Quote:

So I haven't been back to the range as there has been nothing but snow here in MA. I was getting ready to box the rifle up and send it to Fulton Armory for a full go over, new barrel, and parkerization but I was at a local gunsmith who only works on 1911's and he mentioned a garaged up here ... Noah's Motors ... and apparently he is an master gunsmith and works on Garands. I'm going to visit with him and get his opinion. I'd love to keep the local to me if I could.
On a new note ... has anyone bought one of those new Springfield M1A's? I've been thinking about getting one ... looking online and such. I only wish they made them in .30-06 as I prefer that to the 7.62 (.308).
