Hello, im a new member and collector; starting to search for Lee Enfields. Great forum, I've learned lots so far, its nice that there is a community that cares for the milsurps, as opposed to those that refer to these fine old firearms as "those old 303.'s (why would you want one of them?)".
Hi everyone!!!
Hello Badger and all the members of this excellent forum:
My name is Mike Calnan, I'm a Major and an Instructor-in-Gunnery in the Royal Canadian Artillery with 35 years of service so far. After so many years on Guns and missile launchers, I am somewhat deaf, but I still have all my fingers!
I joined this forum as a research tool as I am also the President and Curator of the Swords and Ploughshares Museum near Ottawa, Canada. You can visit our little military museum at The Swords And Ploughshares Museum.
We collect all manner of militaria with a focus on the Canadian Gunner and the tools of his or her trade- guns, missile launchers, tractors, prime movers, small arms, uniforms, etc, etc. We do collect non-Canadian artefacts, especially if they were used by Canada or shot at by Canadian Gunners!:D Ours is a living history museum so we take the kit out to the public in parades and shows and enjoy making very loud booms firing our restored artillery pieces.
I would happily be a consultant to forum members on artillery questions... if I don't have the answer at hand I have many Gunner friends with deeper knowledge than my own who I can ask.
When I'm not at work or tinkering with the artefacts at the museum I've been known to jump out of the odd airplane or paddle around under the sea with a scuba tank on my back.
Cheers and Ubique!
Mike
been lurking here occasionally , I am a moderately active collector nothing specific just what I run into I like , latest one is a Steyr M95 , it is my first original in good enough shape to leave as is , the rest have been rough or sporterised
I have been collecting military rifles and handguns since 1966. I have most WWI & WWII rifles and many of the handguns. I just love shooting this old stuff. When I was in college we had a group at the Champagne County (Illinois) gun club that shot Military surplus rifles on Sat AM's. We had a tin cup at the 50 yard bench and it cost .25 a shot to try to hit a bright yellow anti-freeze can firing from the standing position. You won quite a few quarters whenever you hit the anti-freeze can, LOL! My favorite rifle was a .50-70 Allen conversion Trapdoor Springfield. I had :wave:two pieces of brass and a lee loader primer punch. I just reloaded those two pieces of brass over and over right in the field with black powder from a pistol flask. I dumped two loads in and won the quarters plenty of times.

New forum member here from WA state... long time poster on most other major forums since 02' but recently picked up my C&R license and buying interesting mil/surplus pieces. Great forums with very dedicated, knowledgeable collectors.
Hey everyone. Decided to say hi on here. I've been lurking on here for about a month now, reading and absorbing as much info as I can. I'm new to milsurps, I've been back into shooting for most of a year now and all my rifles are milsurp. I'm into Lee Enfields and have both No 4 MkI and Mki* as well as a No1 MkIII. I aslo have an SKS and a Danish Garand. I've been getting more and more into longer ranged shooting and just shot 500m for the first time last night. Love all the info I've found on this site, its helped in my enjoyment of this hobby lots already, and I'm sure it will lots more in the future!
Hello from downunder, New Zealand. Beautiful place hunting here. Not used this site in a few year's:wave:
Hello gents!!
I'm happy to join you. I'm living in France and I'm a Lee Enfield n°4mkI addict.
I'm shooting with this rifle in the French service rifle championship. The results I get with this make me really happy. And I have a project, that is to equip a N°32 mkII on a Lee Enfield N°4 mkI.
I've also a G41, the German semi-automatic rifle, that works like hell!! and those who believe that is not a really accurate rifle, I can prove that they are wrong..
:super:

Hello everybody.
Always been interested, but only within the year became an owner of an M1 garand (H&R)

Would like to add a 1903 or m1917 someday.

Hi, i first got interested in guns when i was 4 years old. First it was cap guns then when i was 9 in 1952, my mom bought me a carcano from a pawn shop for $17. It went on from there. Then in 1987 i bought a gun shop. Sold in 1999 and had owned just about every military gun there is. The rest is history. I saw the good, the bad and the ulgy.thats my story and i'm sticking to it. Thanks for looking.

Been lurking here for a short while and decided I should step up to the mike. I have a couple of Lee Enfield .303s, a No. 1 and a No. 4. The No. 4 has been in my family for a long time and is a nicely older sporterized one that was already d&t'ed so I recently had it fitted with a scope. Its taken a few moose over the years too! The No. 1 is a recent acquisition. I bought it mostly complete without any wood. So that is the main reason I signed up to this forum. I'm going to attempt to bring it back to its former glory (although its not a number's matching rifle). And it's going to be a shooter.
I better get reading.
Cheers everyone

I'm a fan of military weapons, started collecting in 1967 with the $13 purchase of 6.5 Carcano TS carbine from KMart in California no less. I live in Las Vegas Nevada and I shoot everything I put my hands on, from black powder to current technology. I'm looking forward to opportunities to research and discuss militaria from old to new.
Thanks for the forum,
Wally
Hello everyone
I come from a long line of military men. My Grandfather was in France in WW1 and my Father in WW2, and I have served my country as well.

Hello, got some old military boxes wondering what they are.
Hello from San Antonio. I am a retired US Army officer and have been collecting mostly military small arms for more than 30 years. I have read this forum with great interest over recent years, but never saw a reason to register, but now I have. My particular interest at the moment is British sniper rifles of which I have only two, an L42A1 and a No.4 Mk.1. (T) The L42A1 is complete, to include the shipping crate and scope box. The 4 (T) is missing the No. 32 scope and bracket and I have been unsuccessful finding either over the past 2-3 years and am considering buying a reproduction scope from the gunparts place, but I don't care for the bracket as it does not match up well at all to the original on the L42A1. Based on what I have read in the forum, a Mr. Roger Payne is reputed to make the best reproduction bracket, however, I have been unable to find his business address or anyone who distributes his product. I would truly appreciate any help in this regards. Thanks.
Hello everybody. I have a longtime interest in historical firearms, and welcome info on the ones i have and reading on history of others.'
Thanks.

Just reading what you got here. I have an unhealthy interest in .303 British. ( "unhealthy", my wifes word)
Been lurking around a bit. After a long hiatus from my Enfield No4, have developed a renewed interest in the old girl. This seems to be the place to get all the answers.
I'm single Shot/Love from Connecticut,USA. I've been shooting single shot rifles all my life. Myparticular interest has been old rifles (mostly Sceutchens)and cast leas bullets.
Recently I bought Martini MK 2 from AC One of the Nepal guns. The outside was very rough, and the wood was pretty shabby but all the metal cleaned up real good. Bore on the rifle cleaned to a great finish and, with some stock repairs, it is now mechanically perfect and sound.
In one of the forums I had read about using a 1905 Canadian Ross rear sight to replace the Martini's original sight. I ordered one from GPC and when it arrived after some cleaning it looked great. It fit on the gun beautifully with no modifications at all.
Bought some brass, got a RCBS #57923 mold, cast up some bullets with some scrap I
had around. Went to the range today using 10 gr. Blue Dot and large pistolprimers. Shot some nice 3" groups once I got sighted in at 100 yds. Bullets tipped a little at the target but shot really fantastic.
I think using a powder like unique in a heavier charge might have a little better result.
Aren't these old single shots great!
G'day from Australia.
I've been shooting for 50+ years and still hard at it. Not a collector as such, but have an example of most types of military rifles used in WW1 and 2 (no semi autos, too much fun and not allowed :( ).
I served in the Citizen Military Forces, as an infantryman, then as a Tank Troop Leader in the Australian Army as a young man. Kept shooting because I enjoyed it and was determined to maintain my skill level.
Currently about to dust off and shoot a Ross and a K31 rifle and ended up here looking for advice. I had a big shoot planned today, but forgot about the car race meeting which closed the range. Theres always next time.
Greetings, I am new to this thread. I own a black powder "Brown Bess" and recently purchased a Mosin Nagant 1934. I spent most of my working life as a conservator dealing with the preservation and restoration of historic objects. In that direction, I think that I may have information that will be usefull when dealing with some of the older firearms.

Hi
to introduce myself, shoot at Kingsbury with trips to Bisley, Thrope and Altcar for various comps. Get through the winter with deer stalking and pleasant blasting. Mainly shoot a paramount 7.62. What lead me to this site was looking for information about my Lee Enfield which is a real mix, the action is dated 1915 the stock 1906 and the rest is a fine collection of battered bits. Currently got an order in for a LH AW so bankruptcy looms.
greetings people,
Not really a new member but new account as I gave up trying to get into my not much used old one. Focused on Garands, Ishapore SMLEs in .308, M14s and Finnish Mosin Nagants.

Hello all,
Just found this site while surfing the net and I really was impressed by the excellent articles on british sniper rifles. I dabble in collecting brit militaria and own a No. 4 Mk l(T). The article helped me immensely in confirming my sniper is a legit rifle. Hope to be able to contribute to the forum
Hello I have recently dug out an old inheritance to start tinkering with it. It was my dads deer rifle. I always remember him calling it a Carcano, but never thought any more of it. Now that I have started looking at it I see it is a 1891 Carcano(I think). The number 75 appears on all the parts, even the beat up stock. Also on the butt plate. I assumed this was the serial number, but every other serial number I see has 4 digits. Is it possible that this is the serial number, and what can I learn from this? Also in case it makes a difference it has a hair trigger (two triggers)
I have had my M1 for a couple of years and found this great place looking for information. Going to need more and look forward to reading more threads.
Just a not to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. This is my first attempt at a forum so bear with me while I learn the ropes and figure out how to navigate the site.

Hi To all . i am a long time no poster. There is so much knowledge here, I appreciate all the knowledge shared. I hope you appreciate someone who knows how to keep their mouth shut when little is to be added.
I love old military rifles. I have my grandfather 03A3, a couple of K 98's, a couple of Enfields,
and a Garand. All are shooters, Not safe Queens or teenage dreams.
I do have a question as to opinion of converting an enfield for 7.62 X 54 and will find the appropiate place.
I wish you all well.
D
A proud Canadian with a great deal of respect for the people who serve and served our country:thup: Also enjoy shooting milsurp rifles.
I am new to the group. Looking for a Garand. I keep hearing about re-welded Garands.
Are they OK, how do you tell?
Thank you for any information
Phiil
I am searching for dates of manufacture of our M-1s.
A big Hi to everyone,
I am new at all of this and hope to enjoy myself and someday be able to help others with some answers. I inherited an M1903 from my father who served in WW2 and then the national guards until retirement age. I know little about this rifle and hope to maybe gather some knowledge from others. It seems to be unlike most that I've seen with Redfrield sights that are very fine micrometer target sights. Anyway hello to every one and once I've figured things out I'll start researching this rifle.
Again HI all
