Very pleased to be part of a dedicated firearms community. I'm a former British Army sniper, and saw the change over from L42 to the present day and witnessed the transformation of sniper capability and the way in which it evloved in an exponential manner, to the point where it is now the industry who is behind the power curve to catch up and wake up to capability and requirement. I look forward to perhaps contributing in some useful way in the future.

My name is Tom Brown and I am very interested in the early model Mausers. About a year ago, I had a 1916 Spanish Mauser converted to .300 Savage. I was very pleased with the completed version. Planning on doing another conversion to a 1891 Argentine Mauser.

Hey everybody, new here from NC. Just acquired a 1952, RFI, No 1 MK III, .303 British, at a gun show after doing a little research on these rifles. The action seems to be good with pretty good rifling in the bore and a good crown. Havent shot it yet. I plan on tearing it down and giving it a good cleaning first.

Ive recently acquired an obsession for military surplus rifles and picked this one up along with a Mosin Nagant 91/30 the week before. Just got done de-cosmolining it and have got to put it back together. Rifle looks good with a good bore. The wife just bought me a M1 Garand for my birthday. Ive wanted one for years....... Its not the most beautiful looking one. The woods a little beat up but to me that gives it character. Everything else on it looks good though. Still got some others Id like to pick up in the near future, like a 1903 Springfield, K31 Swiss, M1A, M1 Carbine, and a Mauser just to name a few...................

I bought a couple of boxes of ammo (PPU) at the show also but Im seriously thinking about reloading my own but dont know a whole lot about it other than what Ive read from doing some research. Ive got a single stage press and some other access. at home that Ive never used. Some of it was given to me when I was contemplating reloading pistol ammo. I never considered reloading rifle ammo because I was told it was a little more difficult.

Im a 10 year Marine Corps combat veteran having served in Iraq and other various places overseas. I served from 1993 through the end of 2003 and wouldnt take anything in exchange for the experiences and time I served. Im currently a law enforcement officer and an operator on a Special Response Team (SRT).

Looking forward to learning more from you guys and gals about these historic rifles............

I am firearms enthusiast and member of Canadiangunnutz.ca. I recently inherited my grandfathers 1951 Lee Enfield No1 MKIII* Lithgow SMLE and during my milsurp surfing on the CGN forum, I discovered milsurps.com so I thought I would join and say hello.

My grandfathers rifle was sporterised sometime ago and I am in the process of restoring it to its former militarized glory. I have detail stripped the rifle, cleaned all the metal, and I am currently refinishing the sporter wood until I find some military wood for the rifle. I am also considering getting it blued with a dark matte blue but I am not sure if this would add to or deduct from the authenticity of the rifle. I hope to find the answers to all my questions here and I look forward to sharing what I find and what I have done with all of you. I will be posting before and after pictures in the appropriate forum in the near future.

I found this site after I picked up a M1922 M2 in a target stock, and with a globe front sight and military scope bases for a Unertil scope, and wanted to know what I had.

All shooters, I am not a collector , I have used my carbines (one is my wifes) at a tac carbine class (everyone else used M4's ) and did well, at least to the limit of my 60+ yr old eyes carbine did great. Looking forward to learning here.

My first post here. You may recognize my ID from some of the other boards I belong to (I keep my user ID the same where ever I go). I am interested in any type of military firearm. I own everything from a muzzle loader to a couple of machine guns. Collector is not the correct term for my activities, maybe sampler? Living in CT, which just passed a whole new set of laws, has rekindled my interest in C&R type guns (since the black guns are no longer considered suitable for us mere mortals).

Without really meaning to, I have a good start on a WW2 collection. Currently, I have rifles from the US, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Russia. So, I guess I need to pick up a British SMLE, and French MAS to cover the major players! Yes, I know there are loads more, but I have neither the funds nor the space to get too far down that road.

Hope that I can learn a lot here, and maybe even contribute some to the collective knowledge base.

I am from Sasolburg in South Africa.
I received a 303 Lee Enfield No 4 Mrk1 as a present from my brother in law. The rifle is sporty and I started reloading for it. After started with load development at the lowest load it show high pressures, primers flattened and shells cracked.
Eventually I had the barrel measured and my 303 Lee Enfield has a 308 barrel on.
It use a 303 shell with a .30 bullet. I prefer a 150 grain bullet and already had taken some antelope with my rifle.
I called it my three o something.

I found this forum two years ago looking some info for a couple of rifles I got on my last duty trip in Afghanistan. Since then I´ve been trying to give my two old british history pieces a more decent condition before show them here. Now I think one of them is more or less in condition to appear in this forum.

I also collect all kind of military antiques I found out of there, from signals equipment (spanish and german ww2 ) to deact weapons (sadly and legally of course...) and related.

Have had a "sporter" no1 mk3 for about 12 years now as well as a Ross 22 trainer rifle for about 20 years, am now adding to my collection with a no4 mk1 "shooter" that has been restored/restocked if the deal goes through. Also found a no4 mk2 that I am hoping to add to my collection. If all goes well a 303 Ross will be in the cards later this year. Heard about this forum from another forum thread and saw how much info was available here!

New to this forum and firstly would like to say " THANKS " to any military members here for their service . I will be looking for a decent M1 to purchase and maybe some of you can impart some wisdom as to what to look for as well as what not to buy . Of course I want a match grade, SA Army issue for 100$ ..... other than that I'll be looking for a SA M14 and an SA O3-A3 to start off my military collection . I have two M4's , Win model 94 ( is the wifes rifle ) as well. I am retired , 100% disabled Nam Vet full of agent orange ..... but nonetheless I feel pretty good . I love my country and will continue to be willing to defend the constitution with my life against all usurpers if need be .

I just signed up. I just acquired a passion for surplus military arms... and guns in general... THIS YEAR! My first ever gun purchase was a 39 Tula Mosin Nagant. Second was a 43 Savage No4 Mk1*. That's all I have but I want more! It's a shame I am getting into the hobby during the panic.

I also own one handgun, a Beretta 92A1.

My primary area of interest it WWII weapons, and then Russian weapons. As an American I lament that I cannot buy a cheap Russian SKS or SVT-40, as they are two rifles I really want to own.

Ultimately I want all the primary weapons (rilfes, I can only dream of PPSh and STG44) of the major participants of WWII.

I gotta say my wife is not as passionate about the hobby as I am! And my son only rates these weapons as good as they are in Call of Duty! :(

With some luck winter is over, I will be removing the snowblower from the garden tractor today and am not really sure I should. They are saying 89 degrees within 5 days from now. Although the only milsurps in my household are my Longbranch No 4 MkI, sporterised and converted to 303-25 and my father's sporterised Lithgow No 1 MkIII, I do intend to change that as funds allow (which isn't easy being a poor farmworker).

Thinking of making my father an offer on his Lithgow and restoring it back to mil spec, and may look at purchasing some model of Carcano (even projectile selection for them is minimal) to get started in the milsurp world.

I get the feeling I shall learn a lot in here.

I am a long time collector of militaria especially communist bloc. I especially collect sks, tokarev Makarov and nagant revolvers. I also have US and other military weapons like swords (Japanese) and mauser rifles. In 1992 I first published my guide to identifying variations in SKS. I am currently (and it seems forever) rewriting it. I welcome all constructive input and look forward to gaining new information and insight.

Hello all My name is Gregory. This is my first post. I have been acquiring surplus rifles for about 20 years. I started my surplus rifle collection the day I turned 18 with a 1917. I used it to shoot in my first post rifle match at Ft. Carson CO. I did very poorly. I met alot of match shooters and they took me under their wings. I still shoot in the midwest and Camp Perry when my job permits. I served in the Infantry for six years. I like the bolt actions the best. The oldest rifle I have is an M71/84. I reload for most of my surplus rifles I miss the days when surplus guns were 50 bucks. When I was in the Army I lived in the pawn shops and purchased all I could afford. I have purchased alot of bubbafied rilfes and returned the ones I could back to military Configuration.

Been collecting only a short time, have several mosins and a Romanian SKS. Retired from the army, the US Army and I am looking for some new interests, and C&R firearms has interested me sense I was a teenager and my hunting rifle was a 1891 Argentine Mauser rifle. Dont have the mauser any more, gave it to my brother some 30 years ago when I first enlisted. I hope to find another one of these days. Also am a US citizen, I hope you don't hold that against me.

Can anyone provide information on a ross rifle that has been sporterized and has ply marked on the receiver? It is serial number 2942. Also I just acquired a mint condition mauser 71/84 that I would like some info on. Thanks, Dan

Thought I would introduce myself, My name is Ben and I am a 26 year old Process Engineer living in Kent, England. Recently bought a 1937 K98 which I am really enjoying so far, hope to learn more about these lovely rifles possibly start looking for a .22 trainer to keep it company.

I found out about this site from Roger Wadham's book on accurizing Enfields. I am British, but live in France. I shoot Lee Enfields in competitions for military rifles. I have a No4 mk1/2 in original calibre and a couple of No8 mk1's.

Have been a member for a couple of years but inactive in posting. I live in the Edmonton area, and collect old Mossbergs ( WW 2 Trainers), have a few Lee Enfields, a few Ross Rifles, and other assorted rifles and pistols. I need to do this to get full access to the site. I see a few rifles in the for sale area that I am interested in.

Greeting and Salutations ! In the course of rebuilding another Carbine I came upon this site. I was a long time WWII re-enactor, (Airborne, long before this Band of Brothers craze !) and long time WWII buff. I was fortunate to have had a chance to fire and own most WWII weapons . I will try to give info based on things I've read and if possible will reference the books. It's hard to dazzle the guys at work since they are not into History. I think I will be understood here !

Just what I needed, another gun forum to spend my time on!:D A friend & fellow forum member (Gary D) referred me to the site, & I already recognize a few other old faces here as well. I've been shooting, collecting, & reloading for close to forty years, & am presently obsessed with shooting my Martini, Snider, & other (mostly British) vintage & antique rifles, muskets, & handguns. One of my latest acquisitions, & what led me here, is a nice complete Ross Mk.II*** rifle, so I'm hoping to learn more about it & some of the other firearms I have.

I have been lurking here since October, 2012. I now have a rehabbed long Lee mk I*. The Ross project is stalled as the guy that has a Mk III nosecap for me is a busy man & hasn't gotten into his shop to remove the foresight to free it.

What is interesting is that a pristine Marlin model 36 in .30-30 came my way, marked with Canadian military ("C" broad arrow) stamps and provenance to a PCMR member. Are there any members interested in the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers, volunteers on the West Coast of Canada during WW II?

G'day, my name is Ron and I live in Mildura in the state of Victoria, Australia. I am a retired plumber and grapevine pruner. I have been a militaria collector for the past 50 years and thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to continue to do so for a lot more years yet. I joined this Forum to learn more about militaria items and possibly acquire a few pieces I'm chasing. In my younger days I did a few years of car racing. Kept me poor but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Played Football, Cricket, Basketball, Rowing, Squash, Table tennis, Military Rifle/Pistol Club Shooting. Tried Tennis but the net was too high and surrounding fence was too low. Tried Golf but seemed to carry more stubbies than enough spares balls to cover the lost ones. Happily married to Maree with daughter Donna and son Rick. Well that's about the best of me. Thank you.

I'm new to collecting but so far have bought several fine examples to include 1926 Tula Mosin Nagant 91/30 ex dragoon, 1944 Tula Mosin Nagant M44, 1943 Izhevsk Mosin Nagant M38, 1944 Walther P38 low serial number the 205th manufacture that year, 1944 BSA Lee Enfield No1 Mk 4, and a Yugo M48 Mauser. I have many more to still purchase just to name a few, Springfield M1 Garand, 1939-1940 German K98k, Russian SKS and a East German Makarov.

Hi Everyone, Just read a great article on indentifying Chinese SKS rifles here by Sandstorm. I am trying to identify an SKS I just got but there are no factory markings by the serial number. I enjoy shooting military bolt actions. Mosin-Nagants are my favorites to shoot.

Hello all. I think I have a sickness, the symptoms are that I have firearms, I reload ammo and I still can't get enough of firearms and ammo. Maybe the correct term is addiction

Hi guys.... Just want to introduce myself. My name is Steve and I am an addict. A firearms addict. I can't walk into a gun shop without wanting to buy something. It started with a .22 rifle for target. It then progressed to shotguns for Trap shooting (my real passion). I went in for the hard stuff and hand guns grabbed me. Now I've fallen into Milsurp. Mosin was my first and now I have a Swedish Mauser too. I think I need rehab.

I'm a new member and a lucky one. I managed to be buying "surplus" rifles when they were plentiful and cheap....and I knew enough to leave them alone and to keep them the way they arrived.

I was also lucky, I picked up stuff because I thought it was "neat"...and it turns out I was lucky (and it turns out have a poor memory for what I bought years ago.). It's nice to go into the "military stuff" safe and find I had 3 Mausers vs. the 1 I thought I had, or 4 SKS rifles when I remembered having 2. I wonder if the stuff breeds in there?

Anyway, an interesting looking forum, hope to find I was even luckier than I thought. Turns out one of my SMLEs was a 1922 "V" trials rifle. I just thought it was a nice rifle, nice to find out it was a rarity. Nice when that happens.

Hello, I thought I would join up on this site , it comes highly recommended for it,s knowledgeable folks and content.
I have recently become interested in Enfields in particular and am looking for info before purchasing one.My only military weapon at this time is a Winchester PCMR and I wish to add to start with an Enfield, a shooter of some sort preferably non sporter and with good apperature sights.
