Greetings, I've been collecting for 27 yrs. I've got two of mitchells kar 98's one a sniper and a 1943 mk3 Long Branch .303 I've restored. I'm just searching for the right .303 sniper. Again, hello to all. :super:
Found this site by accident and since I've been playing with SMLEs since '63 and thought I join & read the forums and see if I can learn new things. Retired '91, US Army. Learned to shoot in the 50's using an 1093A3Rifle, M1917 .45 ACP S&W, 1911A1 and have been a weapons collector/shooter since. Fell in love (as a teenager) with the sight of the No.III MK.1; picked up a JJCO (Not a rebuild) like new in 1990 in the F323xx series. In '63-64ish bought a No5 MK1 new and used it hunting in Utah. NO wandering zero problems with it. Glad to be aboard.
Hi All! The name´s Patrick and I´m stuck in Berlin. Not really a collector as the main interest is shooting (Luger P08, LP08 & Navy, my old service rifle, an LE No.5 and a Mauser 33/40 ... can only use a sort *rsed rifle as I´ve gotta cart em around on a motorbike).
Will still have to get to grips with uploading piccies :surrender:
Hi folks,
There seems to be a lot of useful info here so I joined up.
Greetings one and all. I have been a member of Gunboards and Surplus Rifles for a while now and discovered this site by foolish luck.
I am 60, married for 35 ( Same wife) and have my youngest child ready to enter NAU in Flagstaff in a year or so.
Joined NRA at 14, and they ARE NOT perfect, but the best we've got,
I shoot unaltered Military rifles and started collecting when all you needed was a signature and the mail man would bring it to you,
My primary collecting interest is US Martial long arms, but I like a lot of the foreign rifles. I never had much of an interest in military pistols, but still managed to accumulate some.
My best collecting days are done, but I have picked up the odd fact or observation and plan on sharing them if the opportunity arises
Regards AL DAMORE PHX. AZ.

newbie here from ory-gun, been here a few times, never posted so here is #1.
Hi everyone I am new to this, I was interested in this site because I want to learn more about Military Firearms and there history, just recently my best friends uncle passed on a he left me a World War 1 era Spandu Sniper Rifle and I want to know more about it.
Hi all,
am just getting into collecting and shooting service rifles.
My first and very recent (this week) purchases were a 1913 swedish M96 and a savage Mk4No1*.
The savage is marked BNP with a crown over the BNP, its serial number is 97C6717 and its not dated and has no US property marks, it also has many broad arrows stamped on it.
Can anyone give me a year of manufacture and a factory - from what i have read it maybe around early 1944? And any other info would be great?
Also for the No4 Mk1* - is there a parts list which tells you the thread type and lengths of the screws etc - should the front barrel band screw be the same as the rear barrel band screw - its just that they are the same but the front screw doesn't fit very nicely and the front bands is loose?
Cheers

Hello everyone new to this forum, but I hope to get an appraisal on a sniper scope
Hi, my name is pricedo & I'm a :sos:gunoholic:sos:.
My claims to fame are a Polish State Arsenal, Mosin-Nagant 7.62 x 54mm bought new & unfired with folding bayonette attached & a Smith & Wesson 45 Hand Ejector Model 1917 revolver that shoots .45 ACP (with half moon clips) or .45 Rimmed. The revolver still shoots like a dream & was bought from an old lady who found it while cleaning out her attic for $20. She was going to turn it in to the police.

Well hi all! Been floating around for awhile on various forums, but have been collecting surplus military arms since I picked up a 1873 (mfg 1877) Springfield Trapdoor round about thirty five years ago. Besides the pre-1899 stuff, the current inventory has a few k98 Mausers(pre WWII, early war, late war), five or six Mosins in 91/30, M44, and M39, a couple of Arisaka's (mid war and last ditch), a couple of Enfield's MkIII#1 and a MkIV, along with the regular US firearms from WWI thru WWII (M1a Carbine, M1, 1903). I guess there are probably about a hundred total of all rifles including a bunch of old time levers and muzzle stuffers.
Here are a few:

G'Day All!
Great looking site you have here.
For those that haven't been unfortunate enough to have met me, I'm another ratbag Aussie that collects Lee Enfields and in particular, Lithgows.
Been lurking around the fringes for a while and thought I'd better do the right thing and sign up.
Now to see if I can post a pic.

Good morning,
I am a new member. My intresets are in US battle rifles. I currently own an M1 Garand (w/bayonet), a 1917 Enfield (with bayonet), a P14 Enfield(looking for bayonet), an Enfiled Mk4 (looking for bayonet) and a WWII K98 (with bayonet).
I am also interested in original tools for the above, especially bore reflectors for the Garand.
Thank you!!
Steve
I've just purchased my 1st old timer....a Lee-Enfield Pattern 14 .22LR trainer.
I can'nt wait for delivery and a chance to get it out to the range. I live in Northeastern Ontario in the New Liskeard area and got into shooting through my 15 year old son who is an avide Marsman with Cadets and has infected me with the bug as well. Put that together with a love of Military History and its a good thing my Mrs is understanding and supportive !
Hello,
I'm a new member with no experience in this milsurp collecting game and what a game it is. I'm in my mid 40's with no firearms background and I've learned real quickly that if you don't do your homework you may not get what you think your getting.
looking forward to getting some good advise!
Hi Guys,
I've been a collector and shooter since frontal attacks went out of fashion. Started off with army service with the SMLE MK III, then got into competitive rifle shooting in 1957. From then, been right through the .303 era, including 7.62. Nowadays I like to shoot my 303 1915 Enfield (Lithgow rebuild 1950) for fun, together with my 1896 Boer War Krag-Jorgensen rifle in 6.5x55. Got a great collection of every pattern 577/450 Martini-Henry service rifle issued from the 1869 trials rifle through to the Enfield-Martini 402, and I shoot 'em all. I believe in the philosophy that if it was made to shoot, then shoot it (with care of course) !
Now please don't take the above as.."Gee, look what I've got "...It's having been in the right place at the right time over a 50 year period. So if I can be of help to anyone looking for loads, etc on the above, just ask.
good afternoon every one , i came across this sight while searching for information on a weapon i just recieved . hope to find and make some good friends on here as i belong to a few other forums as well .

Hi all, my name is Warren (wazza) and I have followed Badger's posts from the Jouster board.
First up, congratulations on an amazing achievement and long may this continue.
Anyway, I have been collecting and shooting milsurp for just over a year and already I am poor, on the verge of divorce (kidding) and happy! I have a good looking fleet of Lee Enfields and some Winchester bits and bobs. My current 'top of the pile' project is a 1904 ShtLE Mk1 which is being restored from deer rifle to original $$$
Oh, well... I am not shy and will contribute wherever possible and not always where appropriate I suppose;-)
Cheers

Hello, I have been collecting Milsurps for 35 years. Mainly WW-2 USMC and US Army. Anybody ever seen or have a US WW-2 Airborne map case? Its different from regular Infantry ones. Jumper:thup:
Hi. Keen on all Enfields, though mainly sniping variants from WW1 & WW2. Been collecting militaria since I was 9 yrs old. Also passionately interested in WW1 & visiting the Western Front in France & Belgium.

Hello All. I'm Jerry, (mold maker) recently retired, and looking for info on my first Enfield.
You folks come highly recommended by some pretty serious military collectors. I hope to learn a lot and maybe later contribute.
My latest purchase is a Longbranch Lee Enfield #4 Mk1 that was rescued from an intended Bubba job. The only part touched so far was the removal of the front sight guard, which is missing. I intend to load and shoot the ole gal and am looking for advice.
Thanks in advance, to hopefully, a lot of new friends.
Jerry
Hello,
I have been collecting for a long time. I was attacted to this site from a posting about Enfield revolvers on gunboards.com
Best regards,

Hi guys,
I'm new here and really don't know how to use this system.
I'm a retired educator, disabled at 47, now 63, on SS and state disability, DAV with SCD but try to stay active with my shooting club I own with a partner. We have 600 yds and 127 acres, mostly trees, an informal match schedule for BR 22 RF, CF, and cast bullet. We had a reduced range Hi-Power, and some practical, fun, and long range matches, all rifle, no pistol or BP matches any more as members got too old or faded away too early.
My interests run from new factory to old military rifles, shotguns and pistols. I buy, trade and sell a few to keep busy as well with reloading components and other things like take off barrels, pistol grips and always looking for hard to find parts.
I have 3 Swedes, 3 Lee Enfields and some other goodies from way back, shoot most of them, some are hanger queens in my safes. I have too many to shoot!
Hey out there... thanks for the opportunity to jump in here. Looking forward to the chatter.
Hi all!
I've been a milsurp addict since the early 1980's. My main interest is in Mosin Nagant rifles and carbines but others do occasionally talk to me. My latest rifle, a British Enfield No. 4 MK2, led me here.
~Igor
Also on Gunnutz under same handle. Full military Mk111 Ross ( that shoots better than I can still see), Webley Mk 1 that I need to makeup some rounds for and a VERY much bubba'd MLM with a headspace problem. A PH sportered No1Mk111 and a 1913 mfg 1894 in .30WCF on the civvy side ( plus a few others). Kayceel
Hello Everyone just registered, Intrested mainly in enfields, and sniper rifles recently just completed my No4 Mk1 with the addition of a No 32 mk 1 scope.
Was searching GOOGLE on how to get caked on cosmolene off a couple of Lee Enfield rifles I just acquired and found this site.
Bought an Ishapore Enfield 2A (.308 NATO) from AIM surplus and a friend gave me a Fazackerly No. 4, MK 1 (.303 Brit) that he had rescued from a pawn shop to complement my collection. The 2A is a POJ but the No. 4 is pretty decent.
hello, new to the site.I joined to seek informatin on a rifle I have.Ive done some research, but would like some expert advice.the rifle is a wwII 8mm mauser.I have pics but do not know how to navigate his site yet.
Hey all. I've been a lurker for a while, but a recent case if Enfielditis has brought me out of the weeds.
Well, congratulations to all of you who recently joined us on milsurps.com. You won't regret it I'm sure. Like CGN, it is addictive!

I am new here and not real sure how it all works. I just acquired a collection of Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns and Knives from my wife's ex-hubby's fathers wife...Hope you got all that! Anyway in it are 2 military rifles without a lot of markings or markings in the stocks. One I am certain is a British .303 Enfield circa 1944. It has "England" stamped on the front of the breach. It also appears to have to clip stuck or an extremely hard release lever. I registered here to find out all I could about how to identify these 2 and some of the others that are possibly military....like the U.S. Carbine 30 cal M1 rifle mounted on a thumb hole stock that I don't think is original. I also think the trigger assembly has been replaced. Anyway Thanks for the site and any help you might be.
cdminder
I am looking for pictures of a 1944 .303 Enfield to compare. If anyone has any please reply to cdminder@epix.net.
Hi all, I just signed up today after stumbling upon the forum in a search regarding my Enfield No 4 Mk1* Savage 1942 (33C8671), which was left to me by my grandfather. I recently sporterised the rifle in order to use it as a hunting rifle but I am still struggling with accuracy. I have already learnt a lot and after reading a couple of articles I am wondering whether I should remove the synthetics and replace the original woodwork. It seems that reloading my own ammunition should also help. I am looking forward to learning a lot more about my rifle.

Hello To all. New to this forum but am active on a couple others under the same name. Have been into US Military History for over 30 years and after a major setback have started again two years ago. I am particularly into the history of the Pacific theatre of WWII. And if you haven't already guessed, I am a former Marine.

This looks like a nice place to be.Hi from South Carolina.I'm Stan and I recognize a lot of familiar names on here.I've been around milsurps for a couple of years now.My main interest is in Enfields.I am also a kind of niche collector of Santa Fe Enfields.
I guess my 15 minutes come from the fact that I am the developer of the LT series of sight adjusters.I'm right proud of that.
I'm looking forward to participating here. Thanks for having me.

Enfields....anything else is just a rifle.

Hi all,
I'am retired from Fire Rescue and living on Vancouver Island. Have been collecting 303's for years. Oldest is 1896, to 1945 a mk#5.

Just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. I live in Central North Carolina and have been a firearms collector for many years. I like collecting all types of firearms but mostly military shotguns, sniper rifles, HKs, military fighting knifes, and Third Reich items. I found this site via Badger who helped me post some pics of a Enfield (T) sniper and accessories that I had purchased from an estate. Loking forward to being a part of this forum. Thanks Rod in NC

Just stumpled onto this site from looking at a K98K on CGN.
Have a Oberndorf 1899 6.5 and did a search and 40 numbers off the one listed here so nice to have a reference to check into. Will PM the owner shortly.
Other Mauser in the collection is a Israeli .308 conversion that is a joy to shoot.
Happy to have found the site.

Hello there. I'm a new member to this forum. Hope to learn a lot. Also a member of Windsor Action Pistol Club.
New member. I don't see myself as a collector per se, I buy what I like. Because of the history attached to them much of what I've bought has been milsurp. I also appreciate the construction of the old rifles. Imagine what a FN 49 would cost if Winchester made it! I reload, modern and obsolete. Hobby gunsmith, building centerfire rifles, stock work, checkering for 20 or so years. Looking for others with experience I don't have. Thanks.
Hi my name is ........... This is my first post and I own a BSA No3SR
Hi Guys,
New to the thread and new to some areas of collecting. I seem to have caught some kind of bug with the Enfields. The more I learn about them the more I want. I just bought a couple last week after studing them for awhile and I have several more I have my eye on. I came to this site because of the knowledge you guys have.
Good Day
Just a posting from a new member to say Hi and let you all know that I collect Lee Enfields and field phones:help:. Ya old stuff.
I am always on the look-out for Lithgow 303 but mainly a 1915.
Hey all - hello. This is my first visit and am looking forward to many discussion. Just received an Enfield 1942 No.4 MK1* and am eager to learn.

Hi Folks, new to computers and forums........seems I've stumbled into the right place though.......What a resource..!!!
I shoot Lever Action comps (Chaparral 76, 94 SRC). Military Rifle comps (no5, and for past 500yd P14) mostly at my local range Home Page with the occasional pilgrimage to Bisley.
I'm gonna be spending many happy hours on here..
Hello. New member. More of a shooter/accumulator than a collector. Also reload for most of my firearms. I'm interested in any type of firearm but prefer blued steel and walnut (or birch,or the occasional elm ).
Also on other forums.

Hello Everyone,
Just joined. Have been lurking on some of the US sites but glad to find out we have our own. Am new to the field of collecting (2007); interested in WWII rifles.
Hi All.
I am happy to be here, great reading so far. Trying to learn enough to bring an Ishapore 2A ('64) back to life. She's ugly but she's mine. I'm interested to see what has already been asked on the subject. Good information and good laughs today.

Hi, I am a new member from Italy, it's a pleasure for me to be here with you all. This forum is very interesting and I'm sure I will learn a lot of things.

Hello....I am a new member from Manitoa and just purhased a 1917 Artillary Luger. I just turned 70 yrs. old and I have always wanted a Luger since I was old enough to shoot.
Morning everyone.
I'm an all fresh french member & shooter living in Montreal.
I like to shoot any kind of guns except those using black powder.
I wish you all plenty of good times shooting guns, with much caution
naturally.
G'day all!
Thought i better come in and introduce myself. I have a Lithgow SMLE .303 that i love taking out and having a shot of. I have absolutely fallen in love with the lee enfield rifles and im trying to collect as much as i can to do with the rifles, much to the disgust of my partner lol!
I found this board last October and then promptly lost it. I am a WW1 collector of all combatant nations. I have concentrated in Austria and France mostly but have all other countries as well. I am therefore a generalist WWI collector and not a expert. I've been collecting for only 15 years. Hopefully I can lend some small knowledge to the group.

New member - I just ran across this neat looking forum tonight. I look forward to reading and learning.
Hello, finally went through the registration thing---so Hello to Badger, Claven and the rest of you.
Born at Elmendorf AFB hospital in 1951---so I know what cold is.
Currently residing in Omaha, Nebraska which gets all the North Wind you guys can't use.
Thanks for that, I guess.
I have lots of Enfields, some Mosins and some Mausers. Also French, Dutch, Swiss, Italian, US, Danish, Norwegian, Japanese and Swedish bolt rifles.
There are a couple of MkIV Martinis, a Vetterli, an 1873 Trapdoor and a stunning Two Band Canadian Snider representing the smokepoles.
So I'm armed to the teeth.

Hello,
I've been a member here for a bit and figured this would be as good a time as any to make introductions. I'm a former US Marine and have lived up here in the NW corner of the US for over 30 years now. My main collecting interest is British and Commonwealth weapons from the early cartridge weapons up to the early 1950s. My collection ranges from a really beautiful Snider cavalry carbine to a well used Irish contract No.4 Mk2...with the odd Martini and a lot of Lee Enfields in between. Latest acquisition is a very nice un-messed with '43 No.2 Mk.1** revolver.
The collection also consists of several Garands, Mausers, a K31, a Mosin 91/30, a few very nice Italian rifles, a couple of Arisaka T-99s, the odd more modern combloc weapon, and a nice old Mle 1873 Ordnance revolver (French). Pretty eclectic bunch, but I love 'em all.
At any rate, I've been a fan of this site since I first ran across it, and hope to contribute.
Hi folks,
I am a 40+ collector, particularly in fond with authentic WW2 snipers and Enfields
I have many to learn and your forum is a goood source.
Just signed up. I have a modest collection of Enfields including a No1 MkV & No1 MkVI SMLE plus a L42A1 then the more common examples. Also have a Martini Enfield Artillery Carbine And Martini Enfield Rifle. For my sins I am secretary of the Lee Enfield Rifle Association here in the UK. Will hopefully be able to add some value with my little bit of knowledge gained over the years.

Presently I am recieving a Mauser 71/84 made in 1887 and I am in the process of buying a Yugo Mauser 1948BO . I thought I would give a couple milsurps a try and see what I think. Maybe post some pics when they arrive. THKX Bob

Hello All
Very happy to have found this site. I have been a collector of WWI, WW2 Canadian Military Insignia, uniforms and kit, etc for years and am now looking forward to adding the matching firearms to my collection. Very grateful for the education this site provides. Looking for a Ross, No. 1 MkIII* and Long Branch. Will pay a premium for nice pieces! Keeping my eye on your Quartermaster Stores.

Hi all - I've been a 'lurker' over on the Jouster(CSP) Lee Enfield forum - decided to join in here...
I've been a long-time fan of the No 4 Lee Enfield - grew up in the UK and shot them in the Cadets at school - early 70's. Now happily transplanted to the US (Phoenix) where I can legally indulge... have 7 and counting, including 4 Mk 2 (1955 Fazakerleys), a 43 Longbranch, a 43 Maltby and a 43 BSA.
Looking forward to hearing about the experiences of the experts here.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, I've kept tabs on gunboards for quite awhile and then I noticed this site and what a great resource it is and I had to join. I'm a big milsurp fan. I'm pretty heavily into the Lee Enfields but I also enjoy other milsurps as well. Thanks to all who make this site possible.
Until I starting reading about you guys I though I was the only additcted gun buyer out there. I can never get enough. Now it has reached the point of 'critical mass'. I don't know exactly how many guns I have and I still want more.. Help.
Retired USAF, SMSgt, who then worked with UNISYS in their Defense Systems Branch.
I have had an interest in weapons for many years and am the proud owner of several.
I picked up a Savage No4 Mk1* on an impulse, for $150 and would like to know more. It looks great, but has problems. It appears to be 100% Savage but does not headspeace with the number 1 bolt head. I have not been able to buy or trade for a number 3.
There is a sliver of metal missing on the bore side of the bolt head slot. The bolt seems to work well but I think a stone might be called for. The bore is bright.
It has 55C3582 as it's serial number, but no date. The butt stock has a boxed S. The parts I have checked, including the magazine all have the S mark.
Once I get more knowledgable I will know where to check for Savage marks.
I am hoping the members can help me and educate me.
Hello everyone.
I learned to shoot the No4 in a high school cadet corps in Toronto in the late 60s, and managed to find a 1942 Long Branch - still in the cosmoline - down here in the US. It has been to New Zealand along the way as you can see by the stamp on the wrist (hope the pix attached OK.)
Wonder what happened to all those C No7 .22s that we had in school.....
Regards to all,
FHG918
Hi everyone,
Been reading often here, never posted though. Lee Enfield lover, also like to refinish poor Bubba'ed Enfields. Nice way to spend my long winter evenings, taking refuge in my shop :)

Hello: I am a Marine who was released from active duty over 46 years ago. I served with the 1st Recon Bn., 1st Marine Division. I am a new guy here. Some of the weapons I have are as follows. K98 Mauser, No 5 Jungle Carbine, 12 gauge Shotgun, a 30 cal. M1 Carbine and a Luger Pistol.
I have a number of military items in my collection.
Just getting use to computers.
I am fairly new to collecting milsurps, but like a lot of other people have said, it's an addiction:P. I am a NRA life member. I am a young collector(15 years old), was lucky enough to be born into a family that loves guns, my great grandfather used to collect firearms, and when he passed away I inherited 3 03A3's. My collection as it stands right now is 2 Smith Corona 03A3's, a Santa Fe 03A3, No.1 MK III, No.4 MK I, M44, and an Iwo Jima edition M1 Garand(not an original I know, but still a beautiful rifle).
Hello all! Just signed up. I'm mostly on the CMP forum. Mostly M1 Garands in the safe, but others reside there too. Had garanditis since 2005.
Glad to be here!
Bob
Hello,
I've always been interested in history especially WW2. Always love reading about the Waffen SS, and the Fallschirmjaeger. Favorite weapon is the FG42. When I finally acquired a C & R license, it turned out the FG42 is worth more than my house.
