Many thanks for a great site. My name is Ken and I'm an ex Gunnery sailor from the Royal Australian Navy. Having just got back into collecting ammunition as well as hunting and target shooting I recently took posession of a Savage Stevens made Lee Enfield Mk4 .303 stamped US Property.
The old girl is in good condition considering it hasn't been used for 10 years. I have been collecting ammo since High School and the oldest round I have is a .303 round marked CAC 10 10 which I guess means the " Colonial Ammunition Company" October 1910.
Regards......Ken
Happy to join the group. Just in the process of acquiring a Colt M1911A1. Looking forward to sharing information with the group.
Hi Ya'll from the High Hills of South Carolina, new to the Military Surplus Collectors Forums.
Have been collecting for over 20+ yrs. Initially, mostly USGI M-1's, carbines, and 'O3's w/ a couple of K98's and an Type 99.
Until this year when I acquired a Finn M27 and that got me collecting M-N's (22 to date) and the last was an unissued M39 unissued in post war stock, and awaiting (hopefully) this week my 1st M44.
Happy Father's day to all that have been that fortunate.

Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself to anyone interested, My name is Padraic and I'm from Bay City, MI. Joined the forum because I have an old Remington Mosin Nagant thats been cut down. From the bit of reading I've done on it, I think it might have been cut down by the government and used as a cadet training rifle. I don't know this for a fact but it measured about right as described and it has Izhevsk bolt and magazine. Apparently the firing pins were clipped and the followers removed from the Remington magazines to render them incapable of firing, along with the cut down barrel. My rear leaf spring sight has been removed, filled and ground flush to the barrel and my stock has been cut down and the cleaning rod hole filled and sanded down. A cheap old aluminum front sight was added to it and a dovetail was cut into the hex receiver and a pop up standard rear rifle sight driven in.
My thoughts and potential plans with this rifle are to possibly retrofit M44 gear onto it seeing as it is already desecrated. I'd like to get an M44 stock with handguard, folding bayonet, chop off that awful front aluminum sight and replace with an M44 front sight, remove the rear sight and replace with a rear leaf spring sight.
Just wondering what the MN crowd here would have to say about all that? Looking forward to everyones thoughts and input.
Thrilled to be a part of this great site.. Gary
I thought I signed up here years ago but maybe I didn't :slap:. No more lurking for me, this place is the best source for Enfield information.

Hi everyone,
It's my 1st post here, and I'm glad being a member this forum. I've been buying and selling worldwide military items.
Really, my big passion is original postcards with war ships before the 1950s.
However, if you are interested in original Russian military collectibles, I'm here. I don't want to break the forum's rules and put my site link here to try selling some of my military collectibles. Just PM me if you collect Soviet/Russian military items. I have some USA ones too, but there aren't rare anyway.
I'm sorry for my poor English - it isn't my mother language.
Gene
Hi all,
Thank you for allowing me to become a member of this fine forum.
I own a H&R Reising Model 65 .22lr. Serial # 14xxx, WW2 civilian purchased rifle.
Tracking down info on these USMC trainers and civilian retail rifles has become a very enjoyable hobby.
I need to find a nice Reising type sling, and also an original magazine catch.
I've substituded a model 151 type mag catch, but it is a temporary fix only.
This is the type of mag catch I'm looking for:
Thanks again,
Mike
Hey everyone. New member here from outside of boston, MA. Just recently caught the milsurp bug. Got my C&R and my credit card hasn't been the same since. Currently really into 1903's.
Hello all, this is a really great site, and I hope to gain some insights and knowledge to help me as I add to my collection. So far I have a 1903 Springfield (Sporter, but hey -- it's a start...)
Still, it is a nice looking gun, and will give me something to play with as I learn more about the 03 rifle. Near as I can tell it is a very typical mix master, but also seems to have some very -- unusual aspects to it which I will be taking up in other threads as I slowly figure out just what is in this rifle, and hopefully learn what to look for when I get a chance to add some more original examples to my collection.
Anyway, I got it because it looked to be in fair overall condition, and I had always wanted a few 1903's. They are just -- a classy classic.
I couldn't pass it up. And since it has already been desecrated :yikes: (Drilled for scope mounts, and sporter barrel, with a cheap Whelen cheekpiece stock, as long as I don't break the receiver, I guess I can't do worse to it than others already have.
Anyway, glad to say howdy, and look forward to learning more about Milsurp than I ever thought I'd want to know.

hello all collectors,
i am from australia, and have been collecting firearms for 7 years
i have some firearms that i need information on,one is a toz 8/01 with a po-1m(cyrrillic russian o ,normal 'p' and 'm') scope, the scope has 'made in the ussr' below the po -1m
can someone date these?value it ?:)
As suggested, I've just joined the forum and will introduce myself with as few words as possible. I'm a gunsmith from the mid north coast of NSW Australia, and am amazed at the knowledge base of so many people from this forum. I regularly visit here when I need to research a particular ex mil firearm I'm repairing or restoring. I especially love the photos people post of their much loved rifles. I'm not all that big on posting, but I do like reading. So forgive me if I don't buy into any on-line debates.
Rimau
Just thought I'd make a first post. In short I am a fan of anything 1903. All of the info available is staggering. Thanks to all those who contribute. That's about it.

I'm a new member and would like some advise if anyone has time and is willing to help me.
Although I don't know 'diddily' about 'em, other than how to shoot 'em, I own quite a few firearms, but I don't buy or sell much anymore, but a couple of weeks ago at the local NRA Banquet, they had a raffle for a Kel-Tec KSG multi-round 12 gauge shotgun that I put plenty of tickets in but of course, didn't win it.
I Really like this firearm and want one, But, my sweet wife won't let me spend money to buy it so I've gotta trade one of my guns for one, plus a little cash I've got 'rat-holed', if needed.
I've got an extremely nice (I am told), clean, rarely shot, Armalite AR-180, made by Sterling, low serial number, firearm in .223 and/or 5.56 that I would either like to sell for pretty close to what I could buy a new KSG for or trade outright for one. My AR-180 has never had any rust, has a Armalite clip, and a Armalite Scope mount, and I've been told, is in Very good Condition.
I'm going to list it on here as soon as I figure out how to do it, and possibly on Guns America, also. Can anyone tell me any other place to list it? Maybe GunBroker, but the ones I've seen on there didn't have any bids on them to let me know what they are selling for. Any Advise?
I have no early idea how to put pictures of it on his site, so interested parties can e-mail me at mccord11(at)windstream(dot)net, and I'll send 'em to you.
Thanking you in advance,
GunNut711

Good morning, My name is Randy Dandry, I am 60 years old, Married, ride Harley Davidson Motor Cycles, and into Hunting Fishing and GUNS. I live in Brooklyn, Mississippi. I am new to the Military Forum. I got into collecting Military Firearms about 5 months ago, with the purchase of a World War ll, Japanese Nambu, Type 14, small trigger guard, he took it from a dead Japanese, and he service pistol a Ithaca, 1911A1 45 acp. But on the 1911A1,, the name Ithaca is misspelled, " THACA" on the slide. No one can tell me much about this gun, except that there is not many around. Bought a few other military guns, then purchased a German Mauser. That is what got me here. The Mauser I have is a Gustloff-Werke Weimar: bcd 4 . Cannot fine much on the bcd 4, everything I find is on the 337. Another interesting thing is that there is a flip up cover at the end of the barrel, that fits over the front sight, and flips up. As was told to me, the lady that I bought it from, her husband took it from a German in WWll, brought it home, he died, and she just wanted to get rid of it. If anyone knows anything about these 2 guns please let me know. or call me at 504-491-3820. Thanks Randy:))
Joe, my name is Randy, new to the forum, do you know anything about the Gustolff-Werke Weimar: bcd 4. Mauser with a flip up cover on the end of the barrel. very confused! Thanks Randy
Octane; i have a German Mauser, model 98, Gustloff- Werke Weimar bcd 4, with a flip up cover of some kind at the tip of the barrel. Any idea od what I have

I happened to come across the forum while trying to figure out the few milsurps I have in my collection and let me say, you have quite the collection of information! I'm looking forward to learning more about what I have and what I might purchase in the future. Right now I'm focused on this 1903a3 that my grandfather has given me, hopefully I can get some answers through the experts on here!
Thanks,

Hi all, my name is Paul and I am a self taught artist. I have a few replica pistols but gun laws are so strict in the UK I have to resort to painting pistols and rifles rather than shooting them. I am starting some paintings of historic battles, weapons and uniforms for an exhibition I plan to hold in 2014. Does anyone have any suggestions for pictures they may like to see?
you can see some of my work on my web site Home - paulportfolio
Hello. I've been a member for a while but have never posted so I will take this time to do so. I'm a lifelong firearms enthusiast which includes military weapons. I'm 64 years old and have been into firearms since the age of five. Thank you for having me...Bill.
I'm new to vintage military rifles, but not to firearms in general. I recently purchased a M38 Swedish Mauser in 6.5X55(1942), and am using it in area vintage military rifle matches. I'm loading my own rounds, and placed third in a local match yesterday(ten rounds at 100 & 200 yards.)

Hi All - Just joined the forum today. I live near Bristol in the UK and have been collecting bayonets and other sharp edged and pointy things for quite a few years now. I sometimes sell bayonets on e-bay under the name of 'bernie_the_fox' (mainly to make room for new items and to keep my wife happy)

Hello, I'm looking forward to being a member of this forum, my interests include collecting memorabilia of the First Special Service Force, purchasing a mint condition WW II dated Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I or Savage.
I'll be 60 next month and have been collecting WWII to VN US military related memorabilia and weapons off and on since I was a kid. My latest quest has been an M1C and 1903A4 sniper rifles so may be looking for a few answers to some questions.
Hi there. Even though I've been registered with this forum for a good while, I guess I am still considered a new member because I haven't introduced myself to the community. I've been a collector for 10 years and have a number of pre-WWI, WWI & WWII rifles. I don't communicate much because I can usually find answers to my questions on sites like this one by simply looking up the correct topic. Uh, that's all folks!
Hello to All,
I have just joined and wished to say hello to you all :)
My name is Russ and I live in St Leonard's, East Sussex in the UK; I am the Senior Range Conducting Officer of a local shooting Club.

Have fun !

Just found and joined the forum. I am a LONG time (30 or so yrs) class III guy here in the US. (that is machineguns for all the Non-US guys) and also collected Military rifles and pistols over the years. My attention has wandered, so the collection changes. I noted a number of very knowledgeable folks on this board, and look forward to learning more. Standing invitation to the Non-US guys to come shoot if you get the chance to come over to the US, I am located in Minnesota - near Minneapolis. We can shoot some interesting guns on our private range....
Maxims, Vickers, Lewis, Brownings, BRENs, Thompsons, and modern stuff like M60s and M249 to name a few. I do get to Europe, and would love to meet fellow collectors there . Also would like to hear of interesting museums you come across.
Brian
In 1962, at age sixteen, I purchased my first M1903A1 in Albuquerque. They have been my passion to this day ! I have a question to start off my exploration - Were some of the national match 1903A1 models drilled and tapped for the Lyman M48 receiver sight ? If not, how does it affect the value if all other characteristics are all correct ? Secondly, were star gauge barrels ever installed on non-national match rifles ? I respectfully await any information on this subject.
Hello to all on the Milsurp Forum. I am looking to learn and to offer up my knowledge in a new environment.

 I want to rid myself of my 100 rounds of old army .303 ammunition. Headstamped A79. Any offers? I saw D.J. mentioning the value, maybe he would be interested.
Just purchased my first military type weapon. Bought a NPM .30 cal carbine from a private seller. Is a good shooter but not much to look at. Makes me happy though. I am not a collector just a shooter.
Hello everyone.
As my name would suggest I am a huge milsurp buff - particularly with WWII Japanese items. I am happy to find a Canadian forum dedicated to one of my passions and look forward to being part of this online community.

Hello to all Milsurps Members.
I hope this is a good time to also post my first question, so here goes.
I have collected firearms for over 45 years and decided recently to downsize.
While going through my storage area a came across an item that I had forgot was in my collection. At first glance I thought that it was just another typical aluminum constructed AR15/M16 20 round magazine. When I turned it over I noticed that the "slot" is not normal sized. The slot is very narrow, so I turned it to the bottom plate and it is marked as follows:
AR-18, ArmaLite INC
Do any of you Members have information on these ArmaLite AR-18 magazines?
I have tried, with no success, to determine how rare the item is and the value.
I can find no internet records of availability or cost.
So - what do you think?
Thank you for your advice and feedback.
Best Regards,
Robert - Missouri USA.

I own an original WW2 US Army M1911A1 my dad carried as his sidearm as an officer in the European Theater. He also taught me how to shoot beginning at age 5 on the very same gun
(Dad was in the Army from 1941 - 1946 and participated in the landing at Normandy Beach on D-Day. He won the purple heart, bronze star, and numerous marksmanship medals. He was the best natural shot I've ever seen. The 1911 he carried has only the most minor holster wear.)

I am a life long ejoyer of all things Military always enjoying "Playing" with the things my father brought home from his adventures with Fritz in his travels across Europe in WWII. that took him across France into Austria at the end of the War against the 10 SS.
This lead me to Gunsmithing School and into the Army upon completion and service with the Army Marksmanship Unit and to a continuation with my lifelong loveaffair with reloading and all things shooting especailly anything military.
One of the things I was always fascianted with was the old Webley's which I have never had the luck of owning but did manage to get Dave Corbin to make me up some dies and punches to produce the old Mk III and Mk IV designes that I enjoy shooting in a Judge and Colt .45. They do a nice job in Blastic Gel let me tell you. Bob Shell says they shoot great out of a original Webley and happy to share with anyone else wanting to try some!
Been meaning to join you "Band of Brothers" for sometime but like most things in life. Life seems to get in the way of doing what we want most in life but here I am. I look forward to many happy exchanges in the future with many like minded new friends!
Good Shooting to all,

Hello all.
I have been a member for a while, learned lots through all of your posts (tuition free!). Just realized I'd never properly introduced myself.
Hopefully one day will be able to contribute to the forum in some way, as I have been helped many times just by reading here.
Hi Everyone.
Thought I should finally introduce myself. Have been here for awhile, hence the username.
My obsession is Lee Enfields.

Hi Guys, how's it going. One of my interests in playing around with sporterised .303 rifles for shooting Deer, Pigs and Goats here in New Zealand. There are heaps of old .303 Lee Enfields here to chose from. Although they are getting more expensive by the day. I have a No4 mk1 .303 and a No4 MkI* .303-25 and a P14 .303-25 all are capable of inch groups or better at 115 yards. I enjoy re-working the stocks and bedding the actions etc to produce better accuracy. I re-load my ammo as well.

Hi,
I am 27 years old and I am from Italy. I've started shooting (plinking and "sunday shooting" :D ) about 3 year ago and now I am completely hooked on old military rifle. I've got an SLR and a (recently purchased) No 4 mkI* (Longbranch). I just found this forum (with its astounding amount of info) when I was looking for more information about my no4. :dancingbanana:

Hi folks!
I am 43 years old, have one shotgun and russian SKS.
I am really interested in english hand-weapons of WWII times - Sten, Welrod and De Lisle.
Now i am thinking to build my oun Welrod, but i want to use .380 ACP insted of original .320 ACP. Unfortunately, i couldn't find much of blueprints of Mk.IIA, i try calculate all dimensions from pictures and schemes available in the net.
If anybody have any materials on Mk.IIA, any drawings and you can share it, i would appreciate it!
Hi all, recently acquired my nr/r pal and a chinese unissued sks (best guess mid 70's as it has a chrome lined barrel and chamber) as well as a GSG 1911 in .22 cal. Only been to the range once since qualifying for my firearms club membership but am definitely looking forward to more visits to the range and following the posts on this site.
Later all. :wave::wave::wave:
I am looking to learn and have started already to learn about my newly acquired 1955 Lee Enfield No4 Mark II (no.4 mk2) Rifle still wrapped. I would like to preserve the value of it and at the same time shoot the you know what out of it. I learned from this site that it is very accurate. I did pull a little of the wrap to check it out more but couldn't bring myself to unwrapping it fully.
Anyway, I would like to thank all the experts here for sharing because I love to learn.
I'm more of a history buff than a collector, never had the money and now that I'm retired don't think I ever will:mad: But I have enjoyed reading on this forum and decided to join to learn even more. Thanks for a great place to find out what I want to learn.
God Bless
I wish to introduce myself to the Lee Enfield Community. I live in the State of Colorado and have just recently become interested in the Lee Enfield rifle.
I am looking for information on a BSA unit 17L5236 that appears to have been made for the Australian military. I am not certain if it was built as a jungle carbine or sporterized. The number on the breach and stock is 6326 and there is also a number on the breach 17570.
If anyone has information about this rifle, I can be reached at martinwade@centurylink.net or at this site.
Thank you,
/r Martin
New guy here. Bought a Lee Enfield no4 mk1 two years ago. It sat in storage till last week when I finally took a trip to the shooting range and had some fun. This is my first military surplus rifle and I look forward to adding a few more. So far im really impressed with this forum and glad to be here.
Hi, just joined the site. Looking forward to gaining more knowledge about the military rifles and pistols my father left me.
Hello...I am looking at a 1839 model enfield .75 cal?..smooth bore...36 1/2 barrel....any advice?
Hello everyone,
Although I've consulted the knowledge libraries on many occasions over the last couple of years, I've not registered on milsurps.com until tpday. However, my collecting has now reached the point where I need the kind of detailed information that maybe only this site can offer. I'm interested in pre-WW1 military and civilian rifles (collecting in the UK dosn't give me much choice about that, but I've always generally preferred rifle to pistol shooting anyway).
I moved back into shooting after a 20 year gap when I restored early Land Rovers for fun, and having counted so many rivets in that hobby, I'm now unfortuantely taking the same approach to acquiring and restoring milsurps. Can't shake the disease!
First time poster, long time lurker. I've had a love for shooting and collecting firearms for almost 45 years. I believe I contracted it when I was old enough to hold my Dad’s Mossberg 51M. My Dad received this rifle from his dad when he returned from the Pacific after WWII.
There are several family stories about this rifle and it is present in a number of old black and white photos from after the war. It sat in the gun rack in the family room and later bedroom throughout my youth with a number of old shotguns and rifles. A British Jungle Carbine, a Japanese Ariska (a bring back), a Trapdoor Springfield and later a 1903 Springfield.
In September of 2008, my Dad passed away after a long fight with cancer. He told our Mom that he wanted his boys to have his guns. We drew lots and I inherited his Mossberg, the Trapdoor Springfield and the 1903 Springfield, and assorted others. Since his passing I have collected a couple of British Enfield's, a half dozen Mausers, a 1917 Enfield and in the process of purchasing a 1903a3 Springfield. I also collected a bunch of pre and post war Mossbergs!
I am looking forward to learning more from this forum.
Hi everyone !
Felt the need to join one more firearms forum !
I always liked milsurps, I own close to 20 right now.
My name is Troy and Iam new to this site, but others may know me from Russian Trucks, HMVF, MVCA ,
As to my passions, I collect 1970-1989 WARSAW PACT and NATO stuff. I own several vehicles
SOVIET 1987 MTLBU
CZECH ot 64 SKOT
SOVIET 1976 BRDM 2
SOVIET 1989 UAZb
BRITISH 1954 Saracen MK2
Going after a MK1 open top Ferret and a Saracen next :help:
Being here in the Democratic peoples republic of Australia, my weapons collection is very small as our beloved leaders are scared of us, the unwashed masses!
But Iam aiming ( pardon the pun) to get a de activated Bren, SLR and a Sterling SMG, I have a museum lisence which goes a long way, in my armoury at the moment are six AK 47's and an AK 74, 1 x RPK, resin SLR ( piece of crap!) a resin M16 MK 1 also a piece of crap, a M16 mk2 not too bad but not great! and finally the .30cal for the Saracen and 2x 14.5mm KVPT for the SKOT and the BRDM 2.
I also collect gear from that period both Soviet and Nato.
Cheers
Troy
