Hi, I'm new to this forum but have a love for guns, especially military. Right now I have a Springfield M1 Garand purchased through the DCM in the early 90's, bbl date 7/43 unissued and unmolested which came from the Anniston Army Depot, a Rock-Ola M1 carbine, and just picked up what looks like a National Match 1903 Springfield with a C stock. Like I said, looks like a National Match, serial number is in the range, bbl date 6/42, barrel not star gauged, has the right lyman frt sight and receiver sight and stock may be a commercial. Still a nice looking rifle. Anyway, look forward to reading some of your posts.

Just bought my first military surplus rifle - a used Yugoslavian Mauser M48. All the numbers on the metal match. The stock does not match. But, that's OK. I may want to put modern stock on it. If I do, that will be the only modification.

Things you'd like to know, but were afraid to ask. I am a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (in a good way); married for almost 48 years (she says she's gonna give me just one more year to clean my act up); except for college and the military (Army Infantry), I've lived my whole life in Dallas County, Texas.

I believe in God and the U.S. Constitution, especially the 2nd Amendment. My father put a BB gun in my hands before a baseball or a bicycle. Been reloading since 1988. I have some guns that have never seen a factory bullet.

Two sons (one deceased) and 3 grandchildren (one deceased), and 1 brother (in Pennsylvania) with a family.

Favorite hobby right now is Cowboy Action Shooting.

New member looking for all the knowledge I can get on milsurps.To date have 91/30 mosin,nagant revolver,czech vz24 mauser .Nice sight from what I've seen so far.

I've gotten a lot out of this forum and really appreciate all the consolidated information. It's really neat to see all the reference collections out there and the folks who enjoy them. I'm a contract trainer as my occupation and sometimes even with the latest and greatest equipment, I find myself either making excuses for why I missed or can't do something as efficiently as I'd like or rather trying to reinvent the wheel. Much of what I thought was an original idea or concept has been thought of or done before but almost forgotten about, even in the circles that cold make the most of it. Thanks to sites like this, almost is as far as it goes because there are people out there that these old sticks of wood and steel still fascinate. I started collecting a reference collection not long ago to augment what I teach through the doctrines and procedures used to employ them - I can tell you that I have learned A LOT and it has changed the way I teach. My budget won't allow me to own originals of many specimens I'd love to get my hands on but through a blend of replica and NOS, I'm still enjoying the hobby far more than I thought I would.

I just found this forum from a reference on another web site. It looks like I will be able to continue my education here and I look forward to doing that.

I have a few surplus military weapons and have gotten my son interested in them as well.

My main interest right now is reading and learning as much as I can from others more knowledgeable than I am on military firearms. I own the M-1 Garand, M/N 91-30, Russian M/N 1895 revolver, the M1911, and a few others. I shoot mainly at a range down the road about five minutes away, but will be going on a guided feral pig hunt in a few weeks with some friends who have been to the hunting ground before. I will be using a Sharps 1874, reproduction, in 45-70 Gov for that hunt. Wish me luck.:D

I am looking forward to an enjoyable experience here.

Hello all,

I have been a shooter, reloader and gun collector for quite a long time. I just found this forum and it seems to be quite good. I am looking to round out my collection with a nice Garand. I have an M1 Carbine (Saginaw Steering Gear), & 1903 Springfield (Remington 1942). The Garand is on my bucket list of rifles I must own. Looking for a really nice Garand that would serve as a good shooter & collectible. All my guns are shooters not safe queens. If anyone could point me in the right direction or have a beauty for sale I would appreciate it.

Hi, I'd just like to say hi to the forum. I love collecting milsurps, and I especially like taking them to the range so they can stretch their legs. I would really like to thank Peter Laidler for his very informative articles, and this forum for hosting them and sharing them with the rest of the world! I look forward to learning more about the guns I love on this website. I'm fairly active on some other milsurp forums with this same username, but I don't post a lot as I'm by no means an expert.

Thanks again for the very nice website, and for the information available! Mr. Laidler's articles helped me save my 1915 Lithgow No 1 Mark III that failed my field gauge, and taught me the proper way to check over the complete bolt assembly.
