First thank you all for accepting me to the form. I am Retired Army of 33 years. I have a class 3 license and have been having fun with it. I have a desire to build fire arms. I hope to find some help as I start into these projects.:)

BINOCULARS, Prismatic, 6x 30, No2 Mk2 V5/OS 106-MA or Mk3 V5/OS 420-MA

Hi everyone - I'm a collector of British Commonwealth militaria and a long time member of the Historical Arms Collectors here in Australia.

I have recently acquired a rusty SMLE No1 MkIII (1917 Lithgow) that turned out being a genuine HT. It had been placed in secure store by the previous owner while in hospital for 10 months, but the store had been flooded and his entire collection remained there under water. I fortunately happened upon it 30mins after having been brought into a gun shop I frequent - it still had water in the action! The wood looked promising, so I bought it for $100 with the intention of removing the action and later swapping it for one in good condition. No-one had noticed the 'H' on the butt as the bolt was rusted open and had covered it. Upon finally removing the bolt I found the 'H'. Light wire brush on the serial number and sure enough, genuine Lithgow HT sniper.

Anyway, I'm now committed to restoring it, but have quite a few questions for SMLE experts on the forum!

I have managed to get it apart, and the stock is coming along nicely (3 boils, steaming, restoring oil...). Have acquired a replacement heavy barrel, and am stripping the rust off old parts with molasses. I want to restore the nose cap as it has matching numbers - but it is badly pitted. Ultimately, I need advice on things like coating. Original SMLE snipers were painted olive drab over the blueing - but what parts? I can't seem to find out if it was just the action and barrel, or also the nosecap, trigger guard, rear sight etc.

Anyway, I look forward to discussing my not so little project!

I'm new on here but hope to develop a whole lot of info from you lot. :-)

I am a longtime shooter, collector, hunter, etc. My main collecting interest is European fullstock ("Mannlicher"-style) sporting rifles, but I have a secondary interest in various military surplus bolt action rifles, including various types of Mausers, Lee-Enfields, etc.

I've been a military rifle collector for about 45 years now. Always want more.

Hey guys! I am an FNG at this sort of thing, but could use some help on a Ross 1903 Mk II 3*. I picked it up with a loose front upper handguard (nothing securing the rear wings that end at the back of the rear sight), a humped (and chipped) clip on bit behind that, and no front sight protector. Is this some sort of cobble job? The finish appears to match on the wood, but it just doesn't appear kosher. Any comments? --Thanks.

I am a long time shooter and have an assortment of everything from A303s, M1s and various M98 Mausers. I am near retirement and am contemplating learning the art of gunsmithing.
I have multiple interests that range from muscle cars, home construction, stamp collecting and newly added to my gun interests, long range shooting.

By the way, viewing the post by Robinpeck I recognized the rear site used as being a part I have in my parts bin.
