Vintage Matches at Camp Perry
Sorry I don't check this site very often, but, Lucky me! I'm only 90 miles from Camp Perry and have been shooting in the National Matches since 1991. The first time I shot the 'Vintage' match was with a Belgian Mauser in .30-06, receiver marking exactly as pictured on page 164 of "Mauser Bolt Rifles" Third Edition by Ludwig Olson. I shot well enough with that rifle to get a bronze medal with it. I have since switched to my German Mod 98, code ar 43, all matching, and have managed to earn a couple more bronze medals with it. The course of fire is 5 sighters slow prone, 10 shots for record slow prone, 10 shots rapid prone, and 10 shots standing offhand slow fire for a possible 300 points, all at 200 yards. Great fun!
Unsure how well I will do this year as I just had hernia repair surgery Monday of last week. Check out the CMP website for information on the National Matches: Civilian Marksmanship Program and entry information. The hardest thing about Camp Perry is finding lodging. I'll be there to shoot 8 matches in 7 days, again, 1-7 August.
