The weapon was captured by me during the 1st Tet offensive while on S&D. Thanks for having me here and let me know if anyone wants more info. (see attachments)

Hello, referred here based off Ross and Lee Enfield questions, recognize a lot of names on here. The biggest part of my collection is Lee Enfield's, started by a sported Lithgow my pop bought me as a teenager. I also have a Trapdoor, 1903A3, M1Carbine, 2 Garands,, VZ24, 2 M95's and a 1918 Carl Gustav. I enjoy reloading as much or more than shooting. I also have some long range modern rifles, but that's another story.
New here from NZ, mainly reading about SMLEs
Long time owner of a few Enfields. I just picked up a K31 a few days ago and have been bitten by the mil surp bug.

Hello,
Interested in milsurps, especially the design and progress in firearms technology from 1850-1950 or so. Found this forum fulfilling that interest, lots of knowledge here.
Hello Everyone - New member to the board - from Phoenix Arizona.....

G'day. I have been following this for some time but only just joined.
My question - I recently was passed a well abused smle sporter that has had its sights removed leaving three milled holes where the rear sight spring screw and retaining pins would have seated. Is this still safe to fire without the support of the rear sight band?
Cheers.
I am a new member. My interest is mainly Pack Cannon dating from the
the 1880 through WW2. I also have an interest in man portable anti tank
weapons from WW1-WW2. Also have an interest in automatic weapons.

Hello all
New here I hope I have right place. I am doing some mods to my M1 and am going with a M4 type Bird cage Flash Suppressor. I know "why would you do that to a vintage gun". Well this one is already non standard pieced together and the stock was to far gone to save. So I am going for a M4 look and I have a Question for you what threading do I want for the M1 carbine barrel 1/2"-28 TPI RH Threads or 5/8"-24 TPI RH Threads? And yes I will get .30cal not 22.
Thanks for the help.

Hi everyone,
I am a new member and love those military surplus rifles.
New on this site. Interested in U.S. military steel and history. Hoping to pick some brains.
Thank you all for this forum! I have received many good tips and info here- and joined to share any knowledge I can in return.
Another new member here.... I've been collecting for a little over 60 years and have concentrated on any number of different areas. My current collection is fairly eclectic but the one rule is the gun has to be older than I am. (I was born in 1941 and the only exceptions are my M1 Garand, a couple of .22 target pistols and a couple CCW pistols.) Currently I have around 20 MilSurps, both long guns and handguns. All rifles are either bolt action or single shot, handguns are a mixture of revolver and semi auto. The rest of my collection is a mixture of most anything that interested me at the time and I tend to be attracted to the 1870 to WW1 era. I'm also interested in pre-war (WW2) semi-auto .22 pistols and .22 single shot pistols and am a student and collector of S&W.
(Unfortunately, there are several in these categories I can't afford.. i.e.Colt ACE, Camp Perry, etc.)
As for milsurps, I have probably owned examples of most of the common and not-so-common ones (very few semi's though) over the years. (wish I still had them....)
At one time I concentrated on straight pull military rifles. I thought I had examples of all of them and then I ran up against the Swiss 1893 Mannlicher Carbine and the Mexican Mondragon.......... I had a chance at the Mannlicher and missed it. Never did see a Mondragon for sale.
Hope I can be a resource and add to the knowledge base here,
Dean
Let me start by saying I had plenty of opportunities to make mistakes, so I no longer suffer from that condition called "youth".
I live in Italy, and in keeping with the site rules, I shall not discuss the rules pertaining firearms ownership in my Country.
The handle will have told you I have been a pistol shooter most of my adult life, mostly in "academic" specialities. However I am passionate about the small engineering marvels that are guns. In fact I just love the Luger P08 (I find it... sexy) and I still feel amazed by the construction of the Mauser C96, which one day I had the opportunity to disassemble. I have never again seen such a display of engineering prowess!
I have seen some of your posts and bow to the evident knowledge and passion you show. I will keep mostly quiet, since I believe I have far too much to learn, but I wish to take this opportunity to salute you all over the world and thank you for your willingness to share knowledge that might otherwise be lost in not so many years. Thank you all!
I want to restore my transit case, can anybody tell me what is the correct colour for it.
Thanks.
Hi All,
I am a new member of milsurps.com after having reviewed many posts. Very impressed with the collective knowledge of this community.
I am also a member of THR, but my collecting interests have veered towards military surplus rifles lately, so I wanted to join and support this community.
I have been collecting guns for about 25 yrs; until recently, mostly collectible civilian guns, like old Winchester, Marlin and Remington rifles. In the past five years or so, I have run into some very nice milsurps, and the research is fascinating. This is the area in which I hope to learn the most.
Thanks again for a warm welcome,
Chris
I've been lurking for a while and thought I would just do a quick intro.
I enjoy handling and shooting the older firearms more so than the newer ones (although I have both). I have really enjoyed reading and learning from the experts on this forum and look forward to learning more.
I have two Enfield No 4 Mk1 (one with matching serial numbers for the magazine and bayonet) that I have had a for about 20 years now.
I also have two M1 Carbines. One belonged to my Dad while he was stationed in southeast Asia and he brought it back with him. That one is a Winchester. Mine is an Inland and I shoot it as often as I can.
To anyone wondering.... none of these are for sale unless we are talking some serious money. Even then, I would probably turn down the offer
So whilst researching markings on my first surplus gun I kept being led to this site! Quite the plethora of information. A few days ago I got me a Savage Enfield No.4 MK. 1* with all matching serial numbers, stock, mag, bolt, etc. Hope to find out more woth y'all.
Just posting my introduction as requested. Waiting for an IMA Enfield MK II MH and am looking for as much info as I can get. This seemed the best place so here I am. Looking for ammo to buy as I do not reload but from what I have read on line, a live Sasquatch may be an easier acquisition. Also seriously considering forming a reenacting group to portray the unit in Zulu which would be B company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot (2nd Warwickshire). Almost everything for the basic kit is available online so It's very doable. I live in the Republic of Massachusetts but a hundred yards or so from New Hampshire Thanks.
Hello.
I have an interest in downsizing my collection of older military rifles and hand guns from WWII which includes US or foreign.
Nice to finally be a part of this great site . Thanks
Hi Everyone
New user to this forum. Have been active on several other forums Main interests are ww1 and 2 sniper variants. Mostly shoot at Bisley UK as only live a few minutes away

Hello,
Been a minor collector of militaria, mostly WWI, for over 30 years and picked up an occasional handgun or bolt action rifle along the way.
I joined to get expert opinions on some of these items as I'm looking to change out some of my random collection and re-focus it a bit. I have some Springfields, Enfields, S&W's, Colts.
Really looking forward to the forum.
Hello,
I'm new here as far as posting but have followed many interesting threads since joining. I shoot my Ross MKIII in competition, sometimes well and other times not so, but I appreciate its dependability and accuracy despite having a bore that resembles a sewer pipe.

Just found this forum and wish I had found it a month ago. Looks like some very valuable information is posted here. Many, many thanks to the posters.
I have wanted one of these things since I was about 14 years old, which has been many, many years ago.
Spent about 8 years in the Navy, ( Nuke boats), like to target shoot, reload ammo and do some minor gunsmithing. I am retired, so I can pretty much do as I please.
Again, very much appreciate all the posters and the info they have provided. Keep up the good work.
Hey there. Brit expat living in Richmond, Virginia and now the proud owner of No I, No 4 and No 5 Lee Enfield rifles. Stumbled across this site and was amazed at the incredible resource it provides. I have a ton of reading to do!
Hello Everyone!
I'm a new collector and am excited to learn more about collecting milsurp firearms. I'm glad to find this forum!
Hi all, new to this website but have visited several times for info. I have collected arms for 40 years but was never a dedicated military collector, had a few full autos in the early 70's but moved on to Winchester levers and percussian Colts. I have a great interest in the early years of the NWMP and 1885 rebellion , Upper Canada Colt's and Fenian raids. I recently aquired a number of Enfields and am already learning plenty from the Milsurps website
Hi,
Just introducing myself. Been shooting for 35+ or so years but have only recently gotten into MilSurps. I'm primarily interested in .22 "trainers" with no particular focus yet. Have picked up a Cooey 82, Mossberg 44US(c) and a K98 (in .22) is inbound. I'm currently looking for a No7 and lots of advice from thoughs more experienced than I.
New member...I like 1917s.
Hello everyone. Longtime lover of military surplus rifles.
I was recently given a Destroyer carbine. I really like it and am freshening it up. I also have a Astra pistol in 9mm Largo. I am looking for some bolt parts, firing pin, or a complete bolt. I am into MILSURPS items, pistols, rifles etc. Looking forward to participating in this community.
Hi, Love this site. Glad to be aboard. My question concerns a cartridge belt I have hanging on my wall. It has some numbers and letters on the back of the outfit that used it. I am just hoping that someone with a military background can give some info. Thanks
Howdy fellow shooters!
I've been shooting for about 50 years, starting with indoor .22 rifle. I love to shoot, but don't hunt. Varmints are OK though.
Surplus rifles have been my biggest interest, but retirement has given me more time to try longer range shooting in .223 and .308. Thank gosh for reloading and casting, otherwise I'd go broke shooting my revolvers and rifles.
Cheers from British Columbia !!
John

Hi all
My name is Jon, I never join internet forums however this one seems particularly useful.
I have always been interested in SMLEs but only just acquired my first one recently, a Lithgow no.1 MKIII, in aesthetically rough condition, but shoots above average. My intentions are to use it in service rifle shoots while continuing to collect and learn more about Lee Enfields. Ultimately I would like to build a functional copy of an Australian HT sniper SMLE.
Also interested in high-end european, vintage .22 rifles.
Cheers
Jon

So here I am today poking around for historical background on some of the 303s I have accumulated.
My best and highrst regards to you all!

Hi All, I'm a new member and pretty new to this thread stuff.
Greetings. New guy here. I've been around on several other gun forums for a long time (same user name), but had much more limited time in the past. Retired from the Army in 2014 after 33 plus years and am finally settled in back home. While there are a lot of things on my plate like caring for elderly parents and in-laws, I do thing I'll have a little more time to spend on myself. Thought I might spend a bit of it here.
I'm primarily a 1911 guy, but I do own a few other milsurps along with a few civilian arms. Gunsite graduate on handguns and carbines.
Just joined....Have 7 mosins : m28(ski trooper),m39,m44,m91/59,91/30 izzy,91/30 tula, and an 1891 Finn capture made in 1900..
Hello!
I'm a long time lover of milsurps, having grown up in a very rural midwest community in the 50s and 60s. As many of you know and experienced, everyone who hunted big game back then had some WWI or WWII relic in the closet. Few bought commercial firearms, and why would they when a 1903 cost $20 and a 30/40 was cheaper still? Despite having bought and traded for many commercial guns, I find myself at this stage of life only interested in milsurps ....well, that and I do have a Ruger 10/22 dressed up like an M1 carbine, too. Fun and cheap!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and learning all I can from you...
Kwahe :)
Does anyone know where I can acquire an owners manual for this gun? Just purchased it from the gun show and started reading about it before I go shoot. It says 308W on the barrel and Samco in Miami Florida did the modification yet the internet has me afraid to pull the trigger with a 308W factory round.
Any advice or info will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome: With your Mosin experience you may be able to help. Installed new firing pin in my 91/30 and she will shoot factory rounds yet will not fire military surplus rounds. I have adjusted the firing pin using the factory tool and even went deeper with the firing pin yet refuses to fire military rounds? Any suggestions?
New guy here, long time mil surp collector. FFL in NW Arkansas
I am a collector of old firearms and militaria i have some antique ammo for sale
I am a new member. I have a A/O M1 carbine and I enjoy it. I am not a collector, but I enjoy shooting old military rifles also,
Well just saying hello after joining.
Hello, Milsurp board.
Just joined this forum. Not sure how I missed it for so long. I was introduced to milsurps about 10 years ago when I saw an interesting old rifle in a pawn shop. Turned out to be a "bubba'd" Polish M44 and so began my education. I stayed Russian for a while and eventually scored an Ishapore 2A and a few Mausers. Most recently, I finally went semi with a Norinco SKS acquisition.
I am a less frequent poster, more of a Q&A guy with a sarcastic barb or two, but not so chatty. Lots of reading, mainly.
This looks like a nice neighborhood and I'm looking forward to integrating.
Thanks.
Jay
Most likely a weak firing pin spring. Surplus primers are harder than commercial ones. If the problem just began and you've had the rifle a while, it may just be wearing out. If it was like that since you got it, it's possible a previous owner may have altered the spring. Some like to cut a few coils off in an effort to get a lighter trigger pull or make it easier to work the action, especially the "safety"
More often than not, they screw up a functional situation. You can replace the spring for a few bucks from any number of parts sites with another original, or you can go with a modern production spring from someone like Wolf Springs. I've never had a spring issue, so I have no firsthand experience to share.
Here's one reputable gun parts dealer:
