New M1 Carbine Builder....
Hi, my name is Steve Goldfarb, I'm retired and live in Lakeville, PA on Lake Wallenpaupack. I'm a Viet Nam veteran ('68-'69) and was an infantry platoon leader in the Delta with the 9th Inf Division. After i was wounded, I was made Exec of the 19th Military History Det in Dong Tam RVN, part of that responsibility was collecting and storing captured weapons in a large conex container. We had several M1 carbines taken from the VC and I used to carry one on base.
Anyway, I recently became re-interested in that weapon, read everything I could find online and in books (Canfield, Riesch, Ruth and Harrison). I noticed that there were lots of parts available and decided I would try to build a couple of carbines from scratch. I've completed one: an Inland from mid '43 and I'm in process with a late 1st qtr '44 Rock-ola. I know I've spent much more $$ than I should have on these two rifles but "live and learn".
I have lots of questions and am fascinated by the various M1 carbine forums and the discussions. I'm not a collector and I'm not interested in original guns...I'm interested in assembling from available original parts, production date correct, functioning and good looking M1 carbines for my use and enjoyment. I look forward to being an active participant in this forum.

Hello All from Alpena, Michigan
Hello, I am a milsurp collector, dealer, shooter from Michigan. I also am a member of a group of shooters at the local Alpena Sportsmen's Club. This group shoots almost every Sunday afternoon during the summer months. The group is called the "Old Warhorses", typically shoot all military rifles from the U.S.A and other countries from any era. For example my own rifle interests are: Springfield Model 1870, .50-70; Model 1873, .45-70; U.S. Remington, Model 03-A3, M-1 Carbine, Quality Hardware; M-1 Garand, Winchester, May '44 and recently a 1917 Mk. lll SMLE. These rifles are fired at various ranges at the club from 50-600 yards, depending on the shooter and rifle being used. Thanks to everyone here for the awesome info in many different areas of interest.
