Hi Folks, Just joined the Forum, still finding my way around.
I have been an active shooter for 50+ yeras but only relativly got into Military Surplus arsms.
I currently shoot a P14 fitted with Parker Hale target sights but othrwise standard, and a P14 drastically converted to a Sporter by BSA - now in .22/303 wildcat calibre with sporting stock and set for telescopic sight only. Acording to the seller it was brought back from Canada although most information seems to imply the concept is Australian.
I use military caes to reload the .22/303 as it needs thick necks - but what a pin the initial decapping is - the Wamadet hydraulic decapper does the job eventually but I don't need a shower for a while afterwards. Once the inital decap is complete I can remove the primer crimp ring and subsequent decaps are easy BUT any tips on decapping Berdan military would be welcome.
A long standing member of the HBSA, but not now attending the lectures very often - poor rail link from here to London is my excuse! but I still enjoy the publications and web group.
Thanks for an interesting forum,
Ron

New member and new collector
Just wanted to say "Hi" and hope to learn a lot from these forums. I discovered this group while trying to find information on validating my SA M1903 Mark I that I rescued from my late grandfather's estate. I also received a 1920 Steyr-Pieper model 1908/34. I am thinking that he brought these back from the war when he served in the Army.

I am very pleased to join this group and feel I will receive a lot of education and information from other members who have much greater knowledge than I. My interests in firearms are in the areas of U.S. Military, WWi and WWll weapons, and Remington, Savage, and Winchester products.
I reload for nearly all my shooting and have been doing so since the 1960's. Arizona is a very gun-friendly state, and I moved here from California after I retired. Would not go back to CA under any conditions.
I look forward to interfacing with you.

Long time lurker, first time poster
Hi, all.
I guess it's time I posted something. If nothing else, so I can send private mails.
What do I do, gun-wise -- my first gun was bought less than a year into the Øbama Fiasco. I had zero interest in them before that, but no antipathy either. I was willing to cut the guy a lot of slack, but halfway through 2009 I realized "If I'm ever going to do this, I'd better do it now." I could see the writing on the wall. And, living in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, I was right -- I have acquired guns of types and by means that have since become illegal in this blessed paradise.
First gun was a 1937 Mauser 98k. Total mixmaster. Shoots great. I didn't realize that at first but as I got better, the groups got better too until now they are quite acceptable.
Other bang-toys --
K43
Swedish M/96
Swiss K31
Garand
M1903A1
AR-15
Erma EM-1 -- bought to do Appleseed, yes, I got the patch (on second try).
a couple of Swiss Lugers
Hi-Standard Military Trophy
My first priority is shooting, not collecting. I have no use for wall hangers. I started reloading for the 98k when I realized the commercial ammo was even worse than I was, as a new shooter. An investment in a used chronograph bore that out (300 fps variation in a single box of ammo???) With Kalifornia's new background checks on ammo sales, I won't be buying any more commercially loaded ammo here.
Ultimately I want to get out of this state. But I've been spoiled by the weather. Arizona is nice for shooting but I can't stand that level of heat.
The handle "Wernher von Beige" is a gag -- I thought I was so clever with that. Then one day I discovered there was a minor character by that name in Rocky & Bullwinkle -- a scientist friend of Capt. Peter "Wrong Way" Peachfuzz. I must have heard that as a little kid and it got stuck in my brain somewhere.
Thanks for the ad! I've been collecting WWI & WWII arms for about 15 years.
I've been enjoying the Forum the past few days. I've just recently purchased a NO 4 MK 1* from a friend and was finding out about its history and features. I also have several other WWII arms. I also collect military knives and head gear. I have worked in Construction for the past 20 years. Thanks once again, great website! Forest63
