You might also take into account that when the rifles needing a bit of a touch up go through our Armourers shops, the Armourers, whether at the units, or a Field or main Base workshops touch them up (or even fully repaint) them in whatever colour of khaki/green bake-on paint is in the can. My rifle is as 'original' as it gets and it's all sorts of various khaki colours.

To make things even worse, I've just taken the swift spotting scope out of the protective tube and that looks like it's been painted with something from Land Rover!

When I come to sell it in years to come, there will be a forum somewhere where it'll be discussed at length and it'll be viewed as a bit of a hotch potch hybrid and not original because it's been painted and the bipod yoke has been repaired using alloy weld and the butt spike has been modified and.......... and................... And to make it totally wrong someone has stamped 'SNIPER DIV 8' into the back of the stock!

But I loooooooooove this worthy successor to the No4T and L42

Longebow, I really appreciate your reply. I will choose a DuraCoat color based on your information.

The color is called Bronze green, the company that makes the paint is in the UK, I will have to look through some files to get the name of the company and the P/N for the paint.
As with Suncorite they will not ship it over here in any quantity less than a drum.

There is no paint available from the usual suspects Lauer, Ceracoat, or gunkoat that is close, a custom would need to be mixed.

The tropuble with 'bronze green' Marty is that every paint maker and mixer has his own value of the colour! There's a deep bronze green and a mid bronze green and........ and............. There are even a few subtle differences between the barrels and the bodies too!

There was an L96 in Qld for sale a few months ago.

Well really it seemed to be was an AW with some L96 parts. For example it had the metal trigger guard of a L96, but the 3 position safety of an AW on the shroud. All of the metal parts had numerous electric pencil markings, far too many to be considered normal by anyone but a fan of Bubba. In the same lot was a PH M85 & a Omark that seemed to have very similar & prolific electric pencil markings, how amazing. To think that 3 seperate rifles would all be electric pencilled in the same way is really unique !

Anyway, If I get time tomorrow I will post some pics of a very early AW I have in my collection that was used in the Austrailan Trials in the mid 1990's, & maybe some pics of my later one as well.

I think that there was an 'L96' that lived up in Gladstone Qld or thereabouts. Australia can't be that big........, maybe some knows of the owner or the rifle.

If you have an L96 or variant and need one, I understand BDL have the correct slings and handbooks. Sorry if I'm repeating myself. It's an age thing. Not enough viagra

Yep, Gladstone is big but not that big ! A lovely town. That is where the AW/L96 hybrid that was up for sale did come from.

The seller went all quiet after he told me that he had removed the action from the chassis using some hand tools, he said that it had been glued in place & that he wanted to see what was under the action if anything. I kind of picked myself up of the floor after dropping the phone, my mind was trying to grasp the concept that someone had removed a factory bonded action from the chassis, but yes he confirmed that he had done so.

My 3 AW's are all bonded to the chassis, & I doubt that they could be removed without a great deal of effort & potential damage if not done correctly. The issue SR98's I have handled are similarly constructed. I have only handled a L96 back in the early 1990's but I would imagine that the construction details would be very similar.

The other thing that seemed odd about it was the serial number - it started with "08AW".
