Hello all, chiming in from The Great State of Texas. I know my screen are might be odd, but I belong to the Sigforum and MikeinNC is my username there-figures I’d keep it easy for me. Used to live in NC but moved several years ago.
Eagerly awaiting a No4 Savage made rifle that is in the mail. Can’t wait to reload for it and begin shooting.

Aloha Everybody. I'm a new member out here in Hawaii. A few years back while on the mainland someone stole all my baby's (Brno Mauser G33/40 matching Nos, 1895 Chilean Mauser long rifle, M1 Carbine fromCMP, M94 30-30, Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk1, Steyr Carbine, Norinco Mauser copy .22, Granddaddy's variable choke Winchester Model 12 16 ga- all gone). In the last couple of years I started grabbing a few new firearms. Got a decent Yugo M48 Mauser, a very clean 1942 Swedish 6.5X55 M38 Husqvarna Mauser, a new CZ 457 American .22, a new CZ 557 Synthetic American in 6.5X55 and a replacement for the Norinco Mauser wannabe plinker (still a tackdriver but nowadays I need a scope...).
The reason I joined is my Dad's Model 38 Arisaka bringback from Guam (he was there in the Navy in the war and found it and an M1 carbine I still have "lying around" -easy to bring back when on a ship) has been a casualty in a dispute with my sister and was left exposed to the atmosphere resulting in some rust. My question is would it degrade the possible value as a collectible (Matching Nos with Chrysanthemum) if I cleaned it up and touched up the bluing and cleaned up the wooden furniture? I hate to see it looking like it does but I would hate to destroy its value. Any thoughts much appreciated. Mahalo Nui Loa (Thanks Very Much) in advance- Haoleboy
Aloha! Generally speaking cleanup is fine. But when the bluing and sandpaper comes out you have to consider why you own the rifle. If I own it, it’s gotta be a shooter, no safe queens. But that is a collectible rifle and will only be more so in time. So my advice is remove and and all corrosion but don’t blue. Go at the woodwork with boiled mineral spirits. Rigorously and multiple times. If you have access to a bore scope the bore is really where you fish or cut bait. If it’s worn, pitted and rusted as I suspect it is, it may not have a whole lot of value as a shooter or collectible. But sentimental value, I might just refinish the whole thing and hang it on the wall all pretty like. Memory of your dad is pretty danged valuable.

I've been collecting for about 10 years, but finally got around to joining the group. Until now, I've occasionally dropped by, but now I'm an official member.
One day, my wife told me "no new guns", so I started buying old ones!
I have a lot of questions on a lot of pieces that I've collected over the years. I started out with pre-WWI, then got distracted by Mausers, now onto WWII. As most of these were from auctions, I want to learn more about what I've got, as well as get some restoration advice on piece that need some TLC.
