A few very close to that S/N, but yep, that one isn't on the list...

If I were a betting man I'd go for the rifle being perfectly genuine & that the list is wrong. It does contain errors; it's probably a typo.
That's highly likely the case Roger, the problem is, personally I just wouldn't spend the serious money that all L42's go for if it wasn't clearly on the list.
In my option, you would only have the same issue again when you come to sell it unfortunately.
I’ll get some more detailed photos of it alongside my others once I’m home this weekend. I appreciate the extra sets of eyes!
I am inclined to agree with the typo theory error because the original list was hand written on some grubby sheets of paper continued on,into an old HMSO exercise book. The sort of thing that you'd find on the out-inspectors work bench. Then transcribed onto what has been copied and passed around
Is L42A1 N34858 listed?
M37026 Was a discussion with the apparent owner of this L42 a year+ or so ago. If you are still interested, I have some useful information that will be of great benefit to you.
I seem to recall that the then owner hailed from Staffordshire
Hi Colin. Yes, N34858 is on the list. One of batch no 38 of 15 rifles on 2/11/71.
Hi all, I recently picked up L39A1 UE70 A876 from my local shop up here in Canada. It looks like it has had quite a life. I received it with a No8 style butt, PH5C sight, but the front of the receiver is d/t for a scope base. Anybody have any info on this one? I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Thanks in advance everyone!
