Reloading,shooting ,collecting ,learning for over 40 yrs. In my retirement hope
to make friends with like minded ppl .In January I got a large boost in the
collection ,post civil war to ww2 .they were in a fire and only got sooted,I have
cleaned and waxed most, lookin forward to visiting with this group! One in particular is a Colt 10 ga sxs .
New guy here. Just purchased my first 1903 and a Garand. This site has lots of great info. Hoping to learn as much as possible.
Love the history of these old rifles.
I'll get straight to it. I've recently acquired a surplus Carcano Calvary 6.5x52. I've done a lot of reading the last two weeks trying to identify what I received and landed here because I've got something on my stock that no one else has (or so it seems). I'll post some images in the proper Carcano thread when I can manage to get some decent lighting.

Relatively new collector as I'm only 22 but have a No5, L42, Enfield conversion 4T, L115A3 (on the way) and quite a few other rifles. I'm very enthusiastic about British snipers in particular!
Hy folks, Been collecting for about 30+ years, had a few 1903's and now wish I would have kept them. Have one now that is a 1927 03 and is all original as far as I can tell. Going to build a lead shooter from another action that I am going to build just for some informal shooting. I belong to the Cast Bullet Asso. Have a Win M1, and a 1917 Enfield.

Retired Marine who served for 37 years Enlisted and as an Officer in all 4 Marine Divisions and deployed all around the Globe in the Pacific, Mediterranean, Operations Provide Promise in Bosnia, OIF Iraq, and OEF Afghanistan. I'm currently the Senior Servant of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs and work for the only currently serving Governor who is a Combat Veteran - Ron DeSantis. Been collecting Trading Selling MilSurps for 40 years and am currently focusing on M1 Carbines. I appreciate all the Knowledge and Camaraderie that is shared on this Forum!

If you mean the entire sleeve a propane torch will heat the silver solder enough to remove it.Quote:

Welcome to the site. For future inquiries these type of tutorials are usually done in the particular rifle associated or gunsmithing for old milsurps forums by starting a new thread there.

I have always been fascinated with military history, so it's only suiting that I eventually started collecting pieces of history for me to admire myself. I am looking at purchasing an RIA 1903 with serial number 386XXX. It has a SA barrel, dated 5/18. It also has a Lyman Peep Sight. Original sight is still installed and the front sight looks to be the original blade. Is it possible that the serialized receiver was sent to Springfield Armory to complete the gun. Not sure if it is possible that the Lyman sight was arsenal installed. Sight looks to be a 48S.

Hello, I'm a new guy. I bought my first .22 rifle when 8 years old from Bud Rusk's Secondhand store in Canyon, Texas in 1953. The world has changed. I found this site while searching for information on my 30 40 Krag. I see there is much to learn here and a lot to read & study.

On and off this forum for a while as a lurker, but never got round to positing. Been shooting now for about 10 years and have taken a liking to surplus firearms alongside the modern stuff.
Under milsurps, currently have a SMLE, K31, Swedish Mausers in M96 and M38 guise and this last weekend picked up a Charnwood Ordnance 'Jungle Carbine-ish' in 7.62.
Looking forward to doing some reading here and hopefully exchanging info on the CO No 5. as very little out on the Interweb.

I have been interested in Military Surplus firearms since a very young age. I am now in my late 20's and have been lucky enough to acquire a 45 Garand, 43 Mosin PU, 43 Model 12 Trench Gun, and several M1 Carbines, which have became my primary interest by far. So far I have a 43 Inland, 43 Quality hardware, and 45 Winchester. Those little things are addictive and very fun to shoot. Excited to see what else can catch my attention like the carbines have. im trying to learn more about Sten MK II and how to trace old weapons
New member here. I enjoy collecting and working on old milsurps.
New Member and new to collecting milsurp since I needed to do something in retirement. So far in the past year I have given a home to a Chinese Type 53 Mosin dated 1954.8 and a 1909 DWM Argentine Mauser which according to the serial number was made in 1910. I enjoy shooting these rifles as well as getting the various gear, bayonets and other accessories that would have been carried/used with the rifle around the time it was made. I'm not sure what my next one will be but I do know there will be another milsurp purchase in my future.

I am a gunsmith, amateur all my life but professional for past 15 years. I run into milsurps frequently and get a chance to buy a few for my collection, etc. Latest acquisition is a US M1 Fixed Bale helmet and liner and a Japanese flight suit, both brought back by the same vet, now deceased.

Hello. I reload and have a few milsurps and a few sporters that I shoot. I recently purchased a Mk. II*** sporter to examine its action and have become quite fond of it so I mainly joined for the knowledge about these Ross rifles. I also am fond of small ring Mausers, the M1 Garand, and the AK.
Been lurking a while now I'm somewhat active on the cmp and m14 forum.
I enjoy learning the history of these old guns. I have a few in my collection.
Live about ten miles from Camp Perry and the north store. A blessing and a curse. Another plus is the Walleye fishing around here is fantastic and my home is a few blocks from the beach (Lake Erie).
