I know this is a late call, would be grateful for suggestions as how to remove a stuck barrel insert. I put 50 rds of 22 through mine and the barrel insert insert sits rock solid.

Should anyone need sub calibre mags, I know of a source in Germany who certainly had several about a year ago. PM for info.

I'm afraid that it's bulged in place I'm afraid. It's not as though you can actually SEE the bulge either because it just doesn't show in the tight confines of the .22 barrel inside the 7.62mm barrel.

Somebody removed theirs by making a brass drift and pressing the barrel out from the muzzle end but as soon as it starts to rotate with the twist of the rifling, the block at the breech end will shear off. You can get the barrel out that way and it won't(?) affect the 7.62mm bore but youir .22" liner is what we REME Armourer types call 'shagged' thereafter.

Thanks for that. It would appear that I will need a new barrel insert, although they are almost as common as rocking horse droppings!:crying:

They're mpre common than you think. The complete kits are being remanufactured in the US as we speak so you might browse through this thread and see who it is involved on the remanufacturing process.

If it happened to us, we'd just leave the rifle as a ,22", and paint a 1.5" wide red band around the barrel to indicate to the dozy arms storemen that it's now 'different' and put the original breech block and carrier back into stock

I have two H&K sub-caliber barrel inserts but the U. S. State Department prevents me from selling them outside the U. S. even to the country they originally came from.

I have recently located a manufacturer of 22LR adaptors for the SLR.:) He has a few original HK items and is making new kits from scratch. If that's the good news then the bad news is the price, approx £ 1900.00* for the complete kit.:eek: Mags run at about £ 140.00* each:crying: and barrels are around £ 600.00*. The bloke in question is an ex REME armourer and appears to be turning out good kit. I shall soon find out when my order arrives.
