Since We Are Appraising A4. I Would like One Also

I cannot believe how the prices have sky rocketed. I purchased this from a friend two decades ago for $300. Of course the scope and rings are commercial.

You did a lot better with that $300, than my mutual funds. It looks like all you need is a correct scope.

Is that a pre-war C stock on it? But it does have the FJA stamp and the little stamps in front of the trigger guard, interesting!

I don't know much about it but someone knowledgable might know the answer.

Is the second "3" in 1903-A3 lined out and replaced with a 4? Benecia did this. Mine is inspected by JPL as well.

Skip, thanks for posting the pictures. I have a couple of questions:

1. Can you describe the markings on the barrel just behind the front sight cuts?
2. Just forward or under the [BA/JPL] stamp can you make out any traces of a Block "RA" or an ordnance escutcheon stamp (crossed cannon)?

For some unknown reason this photo didn't upload.

An August 43 RA barrel would most probably be original to your receiver.

The mark on the stock is a boxed [FJA]. Its the final inspection stamp and stands for Col. Frank J. Atwood who was in overall charge of contractor supplied items in the Rochester Ordnance District by that time.

Typically an ordnance escutcheon is stamped adjacent to the FJA (which may be boxed or unboxed). Also in the Spring of 43 Remington began stamping an "RA" in the same location. These latter two marks may be obscured by the Benecia Stamp, worn off or sanded off during the rebuild. Or possibly, if the C stock was initially used on an earlier rifle, the RA was never there.

I think a reasonable valuation would be about $3000.

Oh one last question. is the barrel 2 groove or 4 groove? this is just for my data. Thanks.
