new guy needs help from the brain trust

Hello all,new guy first time poster here:beerchug: Just made a trade for my first m1 carbine,got it for a worn Makarov my buddie had to have :D hope I did ok. Anywhoos what I got is a winchester receiver # 12992## with what appers to be a winchester barrel it has a W stamped a few inches below the front site.The rest of the parts are a mix,trigger houseing is stamped ST and trigger parts are a mix and the slide is rock ola.The stock that came with this was a after market fajen and its got to go!What I am wondering is if its worth restoring or if I should just find a proper stock and barrel band and call it good.

Looks like you have a typical rebuild and yes, you did okay! I would be interested, as would all here, in seeing more detailed pictures of the barrel band and trigger housing. The reason for the barrel band is because in it appearance, it looks like a type two band. They are rare.

Put a stock on it and shoot it. Have fun with the old girl.

Thanks Bill.................thats what I was thinking..hoping as I enjoy shooting milsurps.Here is a pic of the barrel band its stamped KI,I think it may have been worked over by bubba when it was sporterised.

It has Pale Rider. It is a type III with the lug cut off.

AM I seeing a doglegg hammer?

Looks like an early Underwood dogleg to me.....

That .U. marked dogleg hammer would bring $200+.
If your plan is to use this carbine as a shooter a flat type III hammer would give you a easier pull.
The funds from the sale of the dogleg would go a long way toward a stock for you.

As far as a complete rebuild/restoration....These early issue carbines cost big bucks to try to restore.

WOW 200 bucks! If some one wants trade for a stock a hammer and type III barrel band that would work for me :super: boy howdy I only paid 150 for the makarov that I traded! Not looking for a fancy stock just a nice shooter grade. Thanks for the good news Gentlemen! :dancingbanana:

I would be happy to do that trade, dogleg for the stock, straight hammer and band, but seriously, you can do better selling it. I have a used Inland Type III band I would left go reasonable.

Actually. I want to keep my WW2 stock, but I still have a type III Inland band reasonable if interested. (I think it is "IS" or "SI")
