I used to have one of those when I was a kid. I never knew what it was for. It was in with all the stuff my dad had during the war. For me it was just another ute belt with a bunch of snaps! :o

His desciption is totally wrong. It is not WWII, it is not for the carbine. It was Vietnam Era, USMC design for separate magazine pouches for the M14.

AH, that's the belt we were talking about a month two ago. $174! Wow he is proud of it, especially considering his description is two wars off!

That would explain all the other stuff in my dad's stuff that was not WWII or Korean.

We did discuss this 10-28-09 I showed the belt below I brought home from Viet Nam. Pouches and mags were added to it in the late 1980's

BrianQ answered: M1961 Belt for the M14 magazine pouches. Type I carbine mag pouches fit as well as early versions of the .45 mag pouches but it came about 20 years after the carbine mag pouches did.

Heck with it. I just emailed the seller with the correction information and a link to this thread. I gave him my email address, too.

Yes carbine pouches will fit, but notice the spacing of the fasterners is off. The pouch it was designed for carried 1 single M14 magazine, thus it has less width.

A few years ago I had a table at a Military Collector show and the vendor next to me had quite a bit of nice WWII vintage web gear, helmets, etc.
He was a nice older gentleman (even older than me) and we talked throughout the day.

My young son was helping me watch my table and the gentleman dug through a box he had on the floor and gave him one of these belts, a hat and some other junk.
He told me he didn't know what the belt was but said it obviously wasn't WWII. It was dark olive drab and in better condition than the belt on eBay.

There WAS a belt with snaps developed and issued in WWII for the carbine, but it was a form of the utility belt with square buckle and snaps dispersed at intervals. The snaps would fit the carbine pouch snaps. Used to have a few.
