CMP Inland Racker SHOOTS!

From a casual rest at 25 yards, 100/150 setting, using the the 25 yard sighting in target from the TM 9-1276 (page 53), 5 shots with Sellier and Bellot FMJ. 4 shots touching, and one 1/2" distant, just above (breathing). Just above the dotted line, center of group 1/2" inch left of dead center. With the manual saying, one click is two inches at 100 yards, one click right should be 1/2" at 25 yards. That is a heck of a group for an Inland racker, especially with a temperature of about 10 degrees and and awindchill of close to zero. I only did one five shot string, as I figured it would go down hill from there! I was contemplating replacing the Type II with a flip sight, but with it shooting this well, I am sure it will be a good match shooter.

BTW, I used the directions on the CMP page to "hang" the barrel in the recoil plate and stock, and it seems to work!

I was asked if it was the cracked stock. I sent the cracked one back. I have nice SA Type V M2 pot-belley with all new metal that I put it in until the WWII replacement stock comes back from CMP. Unless the CMP stock cleans up pretty nice, it may stay in this one (though I am hoping for cartouches). I could not shoot too much. My wife went to town, so I took my arm out of the sling, padded my repaired shoulder with some foam, measured of 25 yards to a big oak tree from inside the carport (the joys of living in the country) and did the 5 shot group. I know a carbine won't hurt my shoulder 7 weeks after surgery, but she wouldn't believe it!

Have you shot it at 100 yards?

Shooting at 100 will have to wait until spring when I shoot 100 vintage military rifle matches with USGICollector, AFTER I get a pass from my wife saying I am cleared to shoot! To her, a gun is a gun, and a carbine might as well be a 12 GA. I even offered to shoot the carbine with the butt on my nose to prove the kick can't hurt me! She is freaked by the fact that the orthopedist said if the surgical repair does not take (it is the second try), I will loose partial use of my right arm!

Don't change anything until you try it at 100 using the 100 yd version of the targeting sight. If it's low, as I think it may be, you might consider taking a little off the front sight. As it stands, that's good targeting and good shooting, particularly considering that shoulder!

If she's that worried, tell her you'll shoot it left handed and wear a helmet to deflect the brass! *LOL*

RM, she's not REALLY worried about your shoulder and she KNOWS that the carbine will not hurt you... she just doesn't like the idea of you having fun while you are recuperating because you are limited to the MAN-U-ALL labor she has has on the "honey-do" list.... Wives don't want you to have fun if they can't have fun making you sweat!

Now, leave a few empty cases on the front poarch and see if I'm right! I bet she will start dropping hints about your taking out the garbage or something....

You may well beat me if it holds like that at 100 yards.
