Anyone seen this,
1946 BRITISH ENFIELD MK1 SNIPER RIFLE WOODEN GUN CASE on eBay (end time 15-Feb-10 01:06:12 GMT)
Just wonder how many of these, and other designated chests are in garages and sheds around the world, still used for storage, but not for the original item.
I use an old Vickers tripod chest to keep my lathe chucks etc in,

The photo comes after the comment about the Vickers chest so the two are 'linked'
I think Bigduke6 is just showing us his vickers chest with his lathe attachments in it. The vickers chests aren't throw aways, as anyone with a vickers must have this chest and the main storage chest. But I doubt it will be worth what the ebay chest is going to go for; currently at $526 with a day and a half to go.
The one thing that confuses me is the NSN on bigduke6's box. The stock class and the country code are ones I am not familiar with. Usually weapons stuff is 1005 stock class and Britain is a 99 identifier code. Can't say as I have ever seen "0120-90- as is on his chest.
By the way, I could use that tripod box, but it would just join the rest of the stowage boxes on the pile. I keep accumulating them, but have quit storing them in the gun room.

Was a stop gap to store the stuff from getting damp when i moved, 8 years later they seemed to have settled in, it was a leftover from my days of collecting deacts, it would cost more in shipping, than the actual value of the box, it weighs a ton even without the tripod in.
Going by the price on ebay your, "pile" would come in at around $7000 (going by the photo would say there was 14?) i would be moving them back in the gunroom!!
I seem to think that the nation identifier for Australia or NZ is 90 Stencollector. The stock class code of 1120 is recovery kit if I seem to remember. So I think that the old Vickers tripod chest was used to store recovery kit in while in Ordnance. Then disposed of as a wooden chest until BD recognised the chest and bought it!
I'll put that part number into the big stores computer next week and see what it indicates......... probably a big recovery rope!
As matter of interest, when the Vickers was air dripped in containers, to save valuable space, the tripod was clamped down to a shutter-ply frame which was butterfly bolted into the container at the opposite end to the parachute.
