Still hunting for the rifle that was issued to my father at Parris Island in the summer of 1946. I have a picture of him holding it when he scored as high shooter in his platoon - and also his score book with the SN written in it.
It's a shot in the dark but it might just still be out there somewhere.
SN is 2860035
I've posted in GCA journal, checked CMP and posted on many forums...just keep refreshing the hunt from time to time.

Andy, this is the old Garand data site's Word XL spread sheet. I want to add a few Garands to it. The old site went belly up a long while ago. Do you or any of you know where to go to add to this spread sheet?Quote:

Don't take that list too seriously. That site was hacked more times than Lizzy Borden swung her axe. There were a few "guests" that posted ficticious findings and wanted to play their games on it. I owned a rifle that was posted there and still have it and had it for many years forfore the Internet. There were others posted there that were consecutive numbers to a few others posted elsewhere, more than a coincidence; and errors with transposed numbers. That's why all those lists should be taken with a grain of salt. Unless you see the serial number or a photo, don't believe it. Trust but verify.Quote:

Here's my dad's photo. It was taken in July 1944 at Parris Island. He was high shooter in his platoon and they sent the photo and a press announcement to our local paper. My grandmother happened to be a proofreader at the paper and was able to keep the original photo and the press release. I have it hanging in a case in my den with a "place holder" Garand waiting for the day when I might find the original.

Great looking picture. I have dads 1942 boot camp Platoon group picture where everyone is standing holding their Garands but dad is at a spot in the picture where you can't see his rifle. During the war he used the M1 Carbine. Don't know the serial number of that one.
