Posted this about five years ago, but for the newer guys ! Belongs to an Australian (not Austrian), friend of mine who lives in Norway, married a girl there, and met her relatives who disclosed to him some "in the closet stuff", dropped in there to the Resistance, late 43/44. Some interesting stuff surrounds the Carbine. The evidence suggests, the Carbine has never been fired in anger. Heaps to learn yet. Mike. Attachment 19715

I noted a type II rear sight and a low wood stock. Won't al that be post Summer 1944 productioin?
It would be early 1944 for inland.
First reports of T2 bands were in the high 4 mil low 5 mil SN range. The adjustable sights started in the 5,00x,xxx range.

There's some stuff there worth some money! Fairburn Sykes knife, M36 grenade, lanyard loop 45 mag, an early Silva Ranger compass, and the Carbine it's self. This just shows what we already know, there's lots of stuff STILL hidden away.
Has adapted to the cold well. There is apparently a lot of this type of gear left over from the resistance. The Germans needed that Norwegian iron and sat a large force up there for the whole war to protect the supply.

Here are 9 original* carbines, belonging to the members of our 'Historical shooting club'(the lonely one is mine:D). Most of them has been hidden away, until it became possible to registrer them, and making them legal to posses. All were dropped in 44/45 to the resistance here in Denmark.
They are all Inlands 5,1 - 5,3 millions ( as are all the others I have seen over the years)
* The only catch is that they are converted to repeaters ( straigt Pull). This is normaly done by changing the piston to a non moving one.

Would be curious as to the how close the serial numbers are to each other. Also wondered if data sheets were completed and sent in to the Amercian Carbine Club. Those would undoubtedly yet some very strong data since those carbines were probably all-original.
dane, can you just remove the piston to make them legel?.....Frank
Looks like a Winchester to me, do you happen to know the maker of the M1 Carbine in the picture?
