No sir, they weren't polished and blued. They were finished more like the bayonet present. Parkerizing was the normal. That one even shows the lines from polishing and rebluing. It could be resurrected though, with a bead blast and parkerize. Provided you get the shade right.

Some magazine covers and small parts were blued sometimes, but the rest ought to be phosphated.

some trivia...did you know the barrel for a 1941 Johnson, is just a standard 1917 Enfield barrel?? look at the breach, youll see the notch for an extractor..
the mag box was left blued originally, im guessing they found it works better when blued vs beadblast and parkerized.
Don't be too quick to refinish a very expensive rifle based on people looking at less than ideal photos. I've seen a lot of Johnson rifles and I can't say from the pics that it is not original finish. Get someone to look at it with their eyes before you change anything.Quote:

The stock may have been tru-oiled. With enough coats, it looks like that.
