Your rifle has been re-serialed. I seriously doubt it's actually that low a number and it's certainly not collectable. It reduces any value considerably. Some parts on it may be salvageable.
what brown said, 500 bucks maybe if the bore is good and it can be fired safely
Something with the whole receiver is wrong. The size and typo are not correct, same for the S/N.
Probably polished off and re-engraved, then the number hand struck. That's what it looks like.
Wow, I've never seen something like that with an '03. An outright attempt at fakery? Or somebody's attempt to "restore" worn markings?
I doubt a military arsenal would have bothered to restore worn or defaced markings on an '03...I know they issued new serials for pistols when needed (with an "X" prefix), but there were plenty of replacement '03 receivers on hand.
I won't commit to my thought on it but I'm sure it wasn't an arsenal re-mark. Doesn't matter anyway.
That number is the USA zip code for Springfield Colorado, stamped by someone as a joke?
ZIP Code 81073, Database - SPRINGFIELD Colorado CO Map, U.S. ZIP Codes, SPRINGFIELD CO
Sort of fitting. If that's the case, it must have had no number when they came to it. What are the odds of us stumbling across that rifle even in reserial form? Doesn't matter, OP seems to have flown...so to speak. Last date here was 26th last month.
thanks for all the replies,my gun buying skills are below par to say the least. was the first antique gun i ever bought and will be the last until i get help from someone who knows more than i do. i guess i'll hang this relic on the wall as a remembrance not to buy these kind of guns in the future.:(
