Seriously???
I have seen gun buying hysteria before, but this is ridiculous! A Stag Arms lower just closed for $515.00 in open auction.
Stag Arms Stripped Lower AR-15 5.56 AR15 : Semi Auto Rifles at GunBroker.com
ALL vendors I have checked are out of barrels and bolt carriers, too.
LPKs are up about double, but stocks are still the same.
Fortunately, several days before the shooting, I bought a Stag Arms lower for my pending tacticool build. I gave $150 + tax and DROS fee. I pick it up the day after Christmas.
My dealer told me that He now has to pay $375 for any lower he can find, and ARs that were $900 his cost are now $2,500 to $3,000! This beats the hysteria of the first Obama election.

Well the first time with Obama there was no threat of an semi-auto rifle ban and now there is. I recently picked up a S&W M&P 15 Sporter for my granddaughter to shoot and paid a bit over $600 for it. Now they are going for about the $1200 mark and still going up. Panic buying of the worst kind. But it's not just the rifles and all the parts it's also all the FMJ ammo and magazines. The distributor's are all out of them and don't know when or even if they can get more. This is worse then the perceived primer shortages a few years ago.

Most of the dealers in Canada have stopped selling PMags and the like. Assumptions are they're going to send them back south to rake in the big money.

I wonder how much my Styer Maadi (19XX of 2000 imported) and Galil are worth.

At the local gunshow this Saturday there were about 250 persons in line to enter about an hour and a half after post time. Line moved fairly quickly but two hours later the line was not much shorter. Funny thing though even with the line outside and sardine can like atmosphere inside every single person was courtious and patient (even when I stepped on their feet).. Gunshow participants are not the problem. As I was leaving I stopped to say hello to a friend who was engaged in a discussion with a protester with a sign reading somthing like "do you really need an AR15" . She was very nice so I engaged in a bit of back and forth. I asked her why she was alone. She replied that her husband was duck hunting wich I found a bit ironic. We spoke for a while and I thanked her for her courtisy and told her I respected her courage to air her views to an unreceptive crowd. In parting I asked her if she would like to know why I carried a gun to which she replied yes. "Because a when seconds count the police are only moments away" (author unknown Jeff Cooper perhaps). Very nice lady if a bit misguided. Even with 200 + people in line most with an opposing view to hers no jeers or negitive comments in the few moments I was there. Hopefully I have not veered into prohibited comentary just wanted to make a point that the vast percentage of lawfull gun owners are peaceful folks and good neighbors as evidenced by all the helpful folks on Milsurps.com.

Over the past year or two, I have been slowly accumulating what I felt I would need. I have 2 USGI M1 Carbines (an original un-messed with 1943 Inland and a Standard Products mix-master), a Retro Ar15 and now a Stag stripped lower to make a tacticool carbine. I have about 1500 rounds of LC M193 for the ARs and about 1300 rounds R-p FMJ and JSP for the Carbines. I have more than enough high-capacity mags for all of my weapons (I have had them for many many years already). I figure I will pick up a barrel and BCG as soon as I am able, but won't hurry for the rest.

At this time, I'd only buy Pmags for profit. The older Pmags with the windows are showing signs of failure in the clear parts. Many small fracture lines at the edges.
The aluminum bodied AR mags I'm keeping for myself.
. Fortunately, M1 carbine mags have no plastic parts!
There's signs that the early military issue Glock mags are starting to degrade (at least in my small collection.) Splits and delamination from the metal liner are noticable at last check. Not altogether surprising.

Imarange,
Ya, I have noticed this hysteria to some degree. So far I have visited 4 Dunhams in my area, and all are out of Black Rifles. The only exception are some lonely 22lr clones. Most of the stores were out of ammo for .223 and 22lr. Plenty of 7.62x39 and 12gage around however.
Shockingly, I have been finding 30carb ammo on store shelves. I was trying to get about 1k worth of it before the panic set in. Not there yet however!
I believe the hysteria will continue until the next election, since even if the NRA steps in and wins some initial victories, the blood is in the water... so to speak.
And Hooked you are correct, contrary to current public and newspaper opinion, 85,000,000 armed citizens are polite, and shockingly crime free. Which has been proven in many states that issue CCW permits or general FBI data. But lets not let that hold us back.....
What is very interesting is the number of gun owners who still despise the Black Rifle. This inspite the number of members at AR15.com. In 1994 there was less interest so I think the ban was easier to stomach. Now, I have heard reports of the AR being the #1 gun seller for MANY years. Some estimates put the number of public AR as between 3-5million sold since 1960. So the actual number of gun owning citizens is an interesting question, and how many will "stay the course" if a ban is attempted. Knowing we can't debate politics in this section, I would still be interested in solid numbers of civilian AR's in existence.
And yes, I recently saw an ad for a ten pack of high cap mags for $80.00, now I am seeing a single high cap mag of similar type go for $40.00. Welcome to change....

Glad I have what I need except the AR barrel and BCG. I have a line on both at pre hysteria prices.
