I can't place this stamp, which looks almost hand done. Is it one of the British gunmakers?

Probably a retailers mark
I thought so, too, but it's blued over. Nice gun, matching, with a barrel mounted target rearsight. I'm debating buying it, but really don't need another Long Lee. They're hard to resist though.

Only a wild guess:
TRC - Target Rifle Club
Any other marks as there were many associations that had this in their title such as the RAF Target Rifle Club
Two clues.
First name was Luke I think, and Manningtree was the area, more to follow if that hasn't given the game away
Boy I wish a Long Lee would show up around here. SMLEs aplenty, but LLs are pretty scarce.
The only person I can think of is John or Luke Tippins as a reference to Manningtree, and I am near there today with a nice War office Minature & a Webley MkVI that need testing
Big Ball Bag, I haven't the faintest idea to what you are referring in your post about Luke and Manningtree. If you have some idea what the stamp means, then please enlighten us. This is a collecting and education forum, after all, not a "can you guess WTF I'm thinking" forum.
Thanks.
Ed
Maybe john and luke tippins??
