The tree branches around the gun seem kind of pointless when you are essentially in the middle of the street. Perhaps they are on the edge of town and don't want distant artillery observers to see them easily?
You'd be surprised how much it would take away from immediately seeing an anti tank gun. It's the same as traffic police standing almost in the open with a radar gun. Put them beside an object and they become less apparent. Same here. It goes from an instant recognition of an anti tank gun to seeing something ahead "What's that?" And that's long enough for a tank action shot...Quote:

The HMG would be better in a covering position, say one of the upper floors of the building in the background.
MGs are always sited for grazing fire. Putting it up in a high place gives a tank a perfect destruction shot. The whole idea of grazing fire is to be able to have bullets run as far as possible, as close to the ground as possible...trust me, I had to site machine guns. That very one... If you want something up there, make it a marksman.
You are correct Jim, and a good point.
My thinking (over-thinking the tactical situation) was that the AT gun would be engaging armour at a distance rather than letting it get in too close, so an elevated position would allow the HMG to engage the armour's supporting infantry at distance as well and would be able to reach what would otherwise be dead ground.
